"I will say UC Irvine, while not in the best location, is a very strong education in the West US." -What makes it very strong? Uci is the definition of overrated. Propped up in great part on the w.coast because of the sheer # of ca kids & parents coping that their kids didn't get into cal or ucla. Also partly propped up as as of late they seem to be yield-protecting against kids they think are likely in at cal or ucla. Blah school, mostly blah kids.
I don't know why you sound so bitter. California just knows how to properly invest in public universities and make a strong chain of the top/best students at Berkeley and LA. They have more top students than spaces for public universities, giving them a very strong overall system. Name another state university system that has 9 universities all ranked in the top 100, I'll wait.... Much of the UC system is incredibly young-UCLA only recently turned 100 years old. I don't think they're overrated, because they have a smart population. Maybe Massachusetts and New Jersey-states known for their strong public schools-should get their shit together when it comes to public universities instead.
