Overrated schools

What a dumb and mean-spirited thread.

UVA. Why would anyone want to go there?

Same. We live in Pa and I know very few people who apply there. It isn’t on anyone’s radar here.

Oh please. I live in PA (a suburb of Pittsburgh and tons of kids from our high school apply there). It’s a fabulous school and everyone I know who went there or goes there loves it. My dd wanted a small school so she did not consider it. She also didn’t want to go to school with lots of kids from her hometown but otherwise it could have been a great option.

+1. Not DCUM at its absolute worst, but close.

Small liberal arts colleges.

Same reasons people want to go to any state flagship.

Big state schools.

Just don't, people. If the last few months have shown anything, concerns about "overrated" colleges should be way down on our list of concerns.

Let's lift each other up rather than tear each other down. Assume that there are good, rational reasons for people's decisions and let go of this nonsense.

My child is going to an ivy. I would have sent them to our very fine in state with merit aid. DH is sure the ivy is worth it.

Pitt has some standing in NoVa for some reason. I am not aware of it having similar standing anywhere else.
