VA: First COVID-19 Case Confirmed

What I heard was all were traced to specifics, i.e. travel or close contact with someone positive.

The guy who actually died was community transmission. Also worth noting that contact tracing to a random person after-the-fact still means you can get it from contact in the community... I mean, it’s not like the folks at the conferences got it from their spouse or bestie.

Why is VA escalating so much faster than Md??

Do you have to have had contact with somebody who has tested positive or has interacted with somebody who tested positive in order to get the test? If so then you can never say there is community spread even if there is.

I'm assuming it is because it is a larger and more populous state.

You have to have had contact with a positive case AND have symptoms. Meaning if you are asymptomatic and have the virus (which is happening) you can't get tested.

This delta is insignificant. I think it has to do with actual tests given and where.

I'm sure VA's number is more like 5000 and MD is 5000. We are going to have more than Italy in a week as soon as we actually get these tests going.

Disgusting. This has nothing to do with it.

Pray tell, were they publishing the races of the VA confirmed cases? Why are you attributing the spread to Asians? The few people's races we know of are those whose names were published, like the Presbitarian church rector in DC (white guy) who had contacts with hundreds. The Loudon county guy got it through contact in DC. Asians are not known to go on these Nile River cruises. The concentration of 13 cases come out of James City County. As far as I know, race not known. But it will interest you to know that 80 percent of the population there is white, 13.6 percent black, and only and 2.7 percent Asian, according to census data:

https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/jamescitycountyvirginia

Plus the Asian population in MD and VA are very similar.
MD: 6.7% of the population
VA: 6.9% of the population

At this time when people are fearing job loss and loss of health, let's not start a race based blame game.

Sorry, just found the fairfax site saying no evidence of community spread. I know that’s questionable given the lack of testing but just looking for a little bit of hope to cling to as we lockdown for the week.

It is beyond questionable. It is completely unreliable. a) Virginia has tested under 500 people b) in most places, you CANNOT get a test unless you have traveled to certain countries or have contact with someone who is positive.

There is little community spread because they cannot get tested!!!!
