VA: First COVID-19 Case Confirmed

The Kensington in falls church is a really nice senior living facility and when I visited I noticed a lot of active residents.

Hopefully this isn’t a repeat of the one in Washington

I love the logic: we won’t test you unless you have a known exposure or traveled. Hey, look! No evidence of community spread (when they literally won’t test for that).

Anyway, Arlington now has cases that seem to be community spread.

This Fairfax County page lists each case and exposure. There’s a 30 year old woman and 50 year old male with no known exposure.

Jeez for some reason the death in ffx co just makes this very very real.

Male in his 60s!

And at the bottom of the PR it says this case was not included in the case totals. A new case is confirmed and dies? OR maybe the language was wrong...

So disappointed that the Fairfax County Health Department Site has discontinued providing information on individual cases. Now they are just reporting the number of cases as it goes up and up. They've stopped declaring that all cases can be traced to travel or a known COVID-19 patient. They just say they'll let us know if we need to know more. They also deleted the statement that the risk to the community was low, but we all knew that was never true.

Yup. My coworker came down with a fever/aches/cough yesterday, went home, couldn't get a test this morning, says she doesn't meet criteria to test. They told her to stay home for 14 days.

I appreciate saving the tests for health care workers but they really need to get this testing thing sorted out. This is being so poorly managed. It's criminal.

There’s nothing the dr would do differently even with a positive test. She should self quarantine and alert people who came into close contact with her.

Thirty-one confirmed cases in Fairfax County now. I don’t understand how they can say that “laboratory reporting is increasing” when it’s still impossible to get tested in this area. What am I missing?

I agree. Testing has been pitiful in this area. This is a metro area with lots of international visitors. The numbers are way too low. Virginia Hospital Center is testing some people. How come other major hospitals in the area aren’t? Lack of tests?

It’s doctor dependent. I ordered COVID19 tests on everyone I admitted with a fever. Other docs only tested people who met the CDC guidelines. I don’t know how many tests we have, but I didn’t get any pushback with ordering tests, so it seems like we have plenty at the moment.
