I agree. Testing has been pitiful in this area. This is a metro area with lots of international visitors. The numbers are way too low. Virginia Hospital Center is testing some people. How come other major hospitals in the area aren’t? Lack of tests?

It’s doctor dependent. I ordered COVID19 tests on everyone I admitted with a fever. Other docs only tested people who met the CDC guidelines. I don’t know how many tests we have, but I didn’t get any pushback with ordering tests, so it seems like we have plenty at the moment.

I’m in the ER

Unfortunately it’s not the case in community settings. People who are symptomatic but not coming into the ED are not getting tested. Why does it matter? Because if they know they are positive, they can be quarantined, their family can get tested. I know of someone who had symptoms but did not qualify for test. Made to go back to work. Probably exposed many others.

Why is Virginia not giving out any info about the confirmed positives? Such as age, how they contracted it, any other info that would be helpful for the rest of us to get a better understanding of who in our state is getting affected and how, so far?

Fairfax county health depot was doing it for a few days and they’ve stopped altogether. There aren’t even many news articles available with info.

That's right; they've gone "dark," telling us they'll let us know if we need to hear more. Privacy is one thing, but this is not very open. The local press is probably not getting much either, except for when someone's office building closes.

Probably because every positive case was a metro commuter so hundreds of possible contacts per day.

So disappointed that in "elite" Fairfax County, the health department can't be bothered to provide information to help the public avoid COVID-19. Instead, they give us this, which states that the confirmed cases of 65+ are more than other age groups. This only reflects that the older patients are the ones who get hospitalized due to more serious illness and therefore, get tested and declared "positive." This is not meaningful when testing is so limited.

Why not spend the limited resources on letting us know where we might have be exposed?
