Loudoun Struggles in ECNL

Honestly on a A team level only with ECNL teams in the past. In the age groups leading up to ECNL? Not so much.

First, I am not from the DC area, so I am not familiar with these teams, but that video can't possibly be those clubs' top 2007 teams. I watched about 5 minutes and didn't see a single player use foot skills of any kind.

Second, the amount of parent coaching on the sidelines is crazy. My daughter is pre-ECNL 2007 and our coaches would never tolerate that. Why are you paying a professional coach if you're just going to tell your kid what to do (sometimes the opposite of what the coach wants) from the sideline. SMH

I agree with your take on the video, especially your observations regarding foot skills and sideline behavior, but the video says Jefferson Cup, which normally attracts top teams. Did Loudoun Red 07 play Clarkstown in the last Jefferson Cup?

Well they are 07 so that makes them u11 last year when this was taken? Not sure what you are expecting, they receive the ball well and make reasonably good passes.

How does this compare to the u11 teams in your area?

I'm not sure I want to go down this rabbit hole, but I'd say that the top clubs in our area play more of a possession style, even last spring at U11. Kids are encouraged to dribble and take players on (when appropriate). That said--I only watched 5 min of that video, so take my comment with a grain of salt. It was just a first impression.

The main reason I even commented was the sideline coaching. If you want your child to develop, stop yelling instructions from the sidelines. You probably have no idea what the coach has told the kids to focus on for that game and you're most likely just confusing them.

I agree regarding the style of play. It is not easy on the eye, even if one were to take into account that it was the end of U11 cycle. The Red team is certainly not a possession based and you don't have to be an expert to see it. I expected a lot more, particularly after the amount of praise this 07 team got on this thread. As they get older, this style of play will become less effective.

1. They were in the very top bracket, higher than McLean, higher than Charlotte Academy (which is DA now, so that's their pre-DA team), but they were always strong, when they were in the ECNL and now as a DA).
2. They made it to the finals and lost to FC Dallas, which is another very strong club from Texas.
3. What are we nitpicking? It's highlights, so you don't see the whole game, but the video shows both teams playing possession. I didn't watch it end to end. I went through different clips for a couple minutes each. Both teams had nice connection moments and were playing from out of the back.

On a side note, it must have been freezing that day because several of the girls are wearing pants and long sleeves. Brrr!

If either of those clubs is selling that as possession soccer, the parents should ask for their money back.

I'm not going to annotate the whole game, but I will post one clip to say that it is: 0:35-47. What's that? The keeper plays out of the back and the girls make several small passes.

The highlights are in the first clip, but the whole game is in the subsequent clips. I agree that this was the top bracket so presumably they faced good competition, but this game is not an example of Loudoun playing possession-style or playing out of the back. This is a tutorial for the keepers on how to punt the ball long.

4 passes and a long ball to the opposing team is not possession soccer.

The conversation was around whether the 2 teams in the video are playing a possession style of soccer. They are not. That is all.

Yeah, I know. I was waiting to see if the Loudoun haters could tell the difference. They can't. This is just proof they will attack no matter what. I have seen ECNL and DA teams, at different age groups. I didn't see anything here that was so gross and hard on the eyes. No more than some other games I've watched. I won't sink to their club bashing level, but we could change the uniforms and names and this could be some other clubs that certainly think a lot of themselves.

....and if you are looking for wins at that age level (which it appears the people on this board are VERY focused on), possession soccer is probably not the best model. Development often comes at the expense of wins.
