I don’t think anyone is arguing they shouldn’t have been convicted for murder. But jail is supposed to be both punitive and rehabilitative. They’ve served 30 years and they appear to be rehabilitated. So why are they still in jail?

How do they appear to be rehabilitated??
I don’t think dealing/selling drugs, purchasing illegal phones (contraband) nor defrauding victims in an elaborate tax scheme are signs that someone is rehabilitated.

The details sound credible and horrific. It was extremely frequent. There was "nice" sexual abuse and "bad" sexual abuse, depending on whether they were being punished vs "rewarded" for something. The kid snapped after they told him he couldn't leave for college, which he'd been holding out as his escape from the lifelong abuse. The mother actively enabled it. I find it entirely feasible that they were that desperate and angry and terrified, all of the things. It's not an excuse by any means, and it also doesn't mean they're good people (don't know them from spam), but I do believe that's what happened.

They may have been abused.
Or they may not have been.

No one will ever really know the truth.

But I imagine if they had been abused, worst case scenario.
Then why didn’t they just leave their parents??
Even if their father took away all their money, they had other options.
They should have just left home, got jobs and got their own place.

They didn’t have to plan an elaborate murder, then cover their tracks so they could go on huge luxurious shopping sprees afterward.

Then when they got caught, claim they feared they would be murdered themselves so they acted in self defense.
Shooting someone in self-defense usually is justifiable when someone is in close proximity and is focused on hurting you.
Not sitting on the couch watching television.

It is entirely on the fact that they had a TV show that they were resentenced by a judge.
They will never get out of prison.
And they need to stop with all of the false hope that they will.
Plus smuggling in contraband (yes, even purchasing a cellphone from a prison guard is considered that!) will not get them paroled at all.

For these two men, it appears that following rules is simply not in their DNA.

True. On all accounts.

Karen read case also benefited from various docudramas

Karen is free because of terrible police work. The docudramas are just a bonus.

Evidence of sexual abuse, or the boys' accounts of it? The problem is that they were/are serial liars. It's hard to know what to believe. Now one of them is coming out and claiming his mom sexually abused him too? They know the case for murdering mom was weak so they're now embellishing it. We also have no idea what the extent of the abuse was or whether the mom actually knew about it. Once more we only have their (unreliable) word for this. Do I believe they grew up in a horrible home? Yes. Do I believe every word that comes out of their mouths? No, not even close.

I agree with a PP this was vengeance not self-defense. Because they are untrustworthy narrators who continue to break the rules, I also agree they should stay where they are.

Did you miss the part where a member of
Menudo also stated that he was molested by their father as well? He was obviously a pedophile.

And his sons carry his DNA.

This is true of any child that is sexually abused by a parent. And what does that have to do with his other victims?

I hope they enjoyed the resurgence of their notoriety.

Because never again will anyone (here or anywhere) ever care whether they are free or not.

Let them both rot where they are rightfully at.

Agree

They served their time. They are not a threat to society.

There is Solid corroborating evidence that they were sexually molested by their dad. Who would not be messed up after living through such abuse by the people who supposed to protect you?

They have spouses who love them.

It is both inhumane and a waste of tax payers money to keep them in jail.

+1 they did not fear for their lives, they wanted the money. Otherwise they could simply have left. Making up new sexual accusations about their mother is beyond the pale.

I agree with everything - except that they are not a threat to society. Are you sure? Would you want to be their neighbor? They murdered their parents. And couldn’t do the bare minimum to follow the rules and qualify for parole. The latter shows a lack of self control that is pretty damning in someone who has a violent past.

I don’t like our prison system and I agree their trial was flawed, but they should have followed the rules in prison.

It's absurd they were allowed to marry, and you have no idea if they're actually rehabilitated or not.

Their actions show they don't think rules apply to them.

Their dad's personality traits, sexual deviances, limited anger control, emotionality, and need to control others -- some families sadly have bad genes and produce very disturbed offspring.

Only a very small percentage become murderers.
