I had to look up what astroturfing is. No, I just wrote about what happened to my son. Everyone seems to think that this is made up because it is so ridiculous, but it's not made up. I guess it is your way of trying to defend a broken system. |
Be careful, then. You said your kid was just admitted and that you were going to file lawsuits against Virginia Tech. Don't mess this up for him. |
We are just doing the FOIA now and I will share the info with Students for Fair Admissions. If him not getting in was administrative in nature, then hope the admissions office can fix the problem. I am genuinely interested in finding out why. A lot of his VCCS professors and high school teachers want to know why also. |
Just sharing facts. I know the thing to do whenever people disagree with you is to call them a racist, but when you do that it really means that you have no argument. |
Top 5% at your small high school doesn't mean top 5% of the 40,000 applications they got. Everyone wants to think their student is the best of the best, but you have to go into this process understanding that your view is very limited because you just don't know much about the enormous pool applying to these very popular schools. Obviously, the major/program applied to are a huge part of this as well. As are recommendations, essays, etc. |
British schools? That's really interesting. Can you say more about that? |
Top 5% of a magnet math and science academy. One of the best schools in the state. He literally copied and pasted his essays from last year on his application for this year and he got in this year.. I know about the pool of students because I can see that he was well above average in every metric. 4.7/ 1550 has a nearly 100% acceptance rate. They need to fix the system. |
Families shouldn't have to endure a manipulative years-long college admissions slog that too often fails to reward excellence and hard work. Your son clearly earned and deserved an opportunity the first time around. Such an experience can demoralize a young person. We need to create room for all of these talented and high achieving kids by adding more seats to the best schools and building more of them. And congratulations to your son on his triumph! He sounds like a young person of character and will have lessons to share with his children some day. |
![]() ![]() OMG. |
You are one odd duck. You’ve posted over and over and over about your son (or rather, his “best friend”) and CC route. Glad it worked out for you/him but it’s probably time to move on with your life, don’t you think? Tell your kid whatever you want - so bizarre. |
DP. You are an idiot. You have no idea what the other applications looked like. Your kid is a dime a dozen. At this point, I can see why he was rejected. The sense of entitlement is staggering. YOU are broken. |
I am so sorry. The college admissions experience is brutal, and most of our kids will experience rejection (ugh). Mine did. The schools who rejected your child are certainly missing out. Your child has amazing stats and will succeed wherever they go! A comforting article worth reading: https://raisingamericans.substack.com/p/deferred-or-rejected-by-a-dream-school |
The transfer pool is MUCH smaller than the regular pool. So good for your kid that they stood out in the transfer pool. Time to celebrate their acceptance. Imagine 20 years from now, your kid remembering how they go into VT and all you did was harp on why they didn't get in the year before. |
Huh? How about to where you get in & make the most of it. |
