SGS at Columbia is a special program for adults to received a BA as a separate degree from the College. They are two SEPARATE institutions at Columbia. The real ivy league program with the 3.7% admissions this year ( and 5.1-6 % admissions in previous years) you are addressing is Columbia College. SGS is a great program for adults and students who took time out from study either after high school or at som later time and decided to return to higher education. Their admissions has nothing to do with Columbia College, and they receive a separate BA which says SGS. USNWR knows all about this. the only one whodoes not seem to appreciate this distinction is you. Maybe you ar the one in need of an opportunity to return to higher education as an adult. Why don't you apply to SGS? I m sure its admissions committee would be intrigued by your application and consider you either for admissions or make recommendation that you get some therapy to overcome whatever personal esteeem difficulties you are facing. |

The transfer acceptance rate into Columbia College is very small. Most of the few transfer students accepted have very high GPA's and 1500 plus board scores. So, what is your problem ? Do you need a psychiatrist to examine why you send out fake news ? Were you rejected ? Are you suffering from some inferiority complex ? ...Your writing certainly indicates personality self-esteem issues. Do you have access to therapy to help you with a sense of self-worth ? |
Actually, Columbia did discriminate. It is just that there were so many tons of brilliant students from a Jewish background ( along with other brilliant students ) it established Seth Low Junior College in Brooklyn. Isaac Asimov, future famous physicists, and other very gifted individuals were rejected because of their ethnicity. |

Sorry, but you sound like a reject or someone with an inferiority complex. Columbia College is one of the most selective undergraduate student bodies in the world. I was there and know who the students were at the College. The College undergraduates easily rivaled and often surpassed any and certainly most undergraduates I met at Oxford, and in my teaching in the UK after Oxford. You sound quite misinformed. Perhaps, do have a chip on your shoulder for some reason ? |

“The real ivy league program with the 3.7% admissions this year ( and 5.1-6 % admissions in previous years) you are addressing is Columbia College”
No kidding! But for the umpteenth time, SGS students sit alongside CC students! That’s 1/3 of the student body who are accepted at a 35% rate. It’s not like that these students are separated from each other. I’m not a bitter reject or jealous of Columbia at all. It’s just that I don’t like the false impressions it gives to those that are misinformed. In this case that a large percentage of Columbia students are admitted at a much higher rate. |
“SGS is a great program for adults and students who took time out from study either after high school or at some later time and decided to return to higher education. Their admissions has nothing to do with Columbia College, and they receive a separate BA which says SGS.”
USNWR ranks Columbia University, not just Columbia College. The SGS students are taking classes with the CC students. They are not separated, except for some core classes offered only to CC students. If 1/3 of your undergraduates are admitted at a 35% clip yearly, then those ultra low acceptance rates are a sham. |

Columbia should be ranked somewhere between 6-8 |
