How many days a week did you do cardio, and for how long?
And did you lose a lot of weight when you did it consistently? |
|
No, not really.
I lost a ton of weight (from 157-135) when I cut out processed carbs and sugar. |
| Agreed. To lose bodyfat you want to cut out sugar and processed carbs, including anything but small amounts of bread, and lift weights. |
| I never lost much weight running, except for when I was training hardcore for marathons a few years back. If I am running 30-50 miles a week, I can eat whatever I want and I pretty much stay right at my goal weight. If I just run 3-5 miles a few times a week, I don't tend to gain any weight, but I don't lose any either. |
| Started Taekwondo do tens months ago and lost 12lbs without trying. Probably not a ton of weight, but relevant nonetheless. |
| Nope. Lost the weight when I cut sugar and carbs. |
|
Think of it this way. Cardio is another way of decreasing the calories your body takes in. It's like eating less, although also good for you in many ways of course. But your body has a strong hormonal regulation system that tries to conserve calories so when you work out you are likely to want to eat more and also if you run a calorie deficit your body will lower your metabolism.
Cutting out sugar and white carbs runs your hormonal system in the right direction. It makes you less hungry, less likely to store fat from excess insulin, and breaks the addiction to sugar. |

20-30 minutes of cardio + 10 minutes of toning/strength exercises 4 days a week = pretty quick weight loss for me, definitely a noticeable difference in how my weight carried
I also paired this with portion control but nothing special diet wise. I'm sure if you up your calorie intake once you start exercising, then your results will be slower. |
|
so over the sugar/carbs thing.
i lost weight when i cut calories. if you exercise you burn calories, so you can either eat more or lose weight faster if you exercise. period. |
Same here. Lost 9 pounds in 4 weeks doing the same. |
Happy this worked for you. Why come down on others who found success focusing on carbs and sugar? For MANY people this directly addresses your calories count issue. |
|
No. I've run 7 marathons in under 4 hours and I still weighed the same even in my most serious training sessions. My male training partner always dropped 15-20lbs each marathon season.
That said, I've weighed exactly the same amount for the past 20+ years. I am not tiny--not 'marathon-looking', but I am very fit looking. My body looks the best now in my 40s because I do much more than just my run/weights routine. I spin one day, bootcamp two days, run outside another, stairmill+treadmill & weights another. Variety seems to be the best for my body. |
|
I've been running for 6 years. I've gained and lost weight throughout that time.
Sure, if you run you burn a little more calories -- but not very significantly. The only way for me to lose weight is to eat less calories. |
that's fine. but calorie count is the issue, bottom line. |
|
Clean eating+3-4 weight training sessions per week+a little cardio=the best way to lose weight.
You can lose weight with cardio only but you'll lose more with weights and you'll tone. |
