There's no real political upside to impeachment for Democrats. The chances of the Senate removing Trump are almost zero. So, it's pretty easy to take the Dems at face value when they say they're doing it because a President shouldn't be allowed to use public money to invite a foreign power to interfere in our elections on his behalf.

Oh, I think the Democrats thought that there would be upside in trying to damage Trump. It may end up misfiring badly based on the recent polling. Abuse of power and obstruction of Congress are pretty nebulous concepts to most Americans. And, quite honestly, it does not help when the front runner for the Democratic nomination has a son who was totally unqualified for the position he got in Ukraine making a million dollars a year ..... quite apart from his personal foibles. It affirms for most Americans that the system is fundamentally corrupt.

All Dems need is strong voter turnout. Impeachment is making Dems fired up and supportive of the party.

DP: In fairness, it really has been tedious ..... and I tend to be a political junkie. It is borne out by the low viewership of the hearings.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to make this observation, but the 2018 election results may be very helpful to Trump's 2020 reelection. It gives him something to run against (Pelosi/impeachment) and purged his side of many of his weakest supporters, including the 23 GOP House members who retired ahead of the election. And by holding the Senate, Trump is not at all threatened by impeachment.

This is why many Americans don't take this impeachment seriously. Just a whole lot of raging hypocrisy, whether it is Schumer's ludicrous pronouncements or Nancy wearing black and saying she is praying for Trump!
