Also you are the same people who have been saying over and over again that you don't want to leave Chantilly that the CIP says Chantilly isn't going to be overcrowded, etc...
Can't have it both ways, mommy. |

Guys, this is getting utterly out of hand.
I know all of you want what's best for your kids, but some of you are looking at this particular situation of a new school opening where you want what's best for existing high schools and Skyview. Rather than worrying so much about sports and test scores, think ahead and treat this new high school like a gift rather than a cure handed down to you by Queen Grimhilde. We need less pontificating via biases, and more respect, courtesy, open mindedness, and also to look at what makes the best sense instead of looking at what you want. I know this is a contentious process like many other boundary changes conducted by this school district, but 5-10years down the line when Skyview is more established, all of you will be thankful this high school opened. 20171 has been divided for years and this gift of a new high school we've been given will unify us once and for all. Crossfield is not Oakton, it is Herndon! Fox Mill is not Reston, it is Herndon! Oak Hill is not Chantilly, it is Herndon! Floris, McNair, and Coates, all Herndon! So suppress your privelage and welcome all of 20171 in open arms!
There won't be space at Skyview any time soon for six ES feeders, and it would be nuts to spend more money on top of the money already being to spent to expand (and not just retrofit Skyview) to handle six feeders. Of course, if all these schools are truly "Herndon," then taking advantage of some of the excess capacity at Herndon could be considered.
Instead of focusing on ES feeders, they should be focusing on MS feeders. It makes zero sense to be assigned to Carson but then not attend Skyview just next door.
You seem to be operating on the assumptions that FCPS bought KAA primarily so everyone at Carson could attend the same high school and that Skyview will have space for everyone now zoned to Carson. Not sure that either of those assumptions are correct. Skyview will have limited capacity, and relieving overcrowding at Chantilly was a big priority. Most of Oak Hill now goes to Franklin.
Without the AAP kids, I do think all Carson kids could go to Skyview (inc FMES and CES) and that would make the absolute most sense. HOWEVER Oak Hill families will not allow that. They will insist that they go to Skyview because it's the closest even though they go to Franklin which is further away than Carson and even though the Franklin Farm families live closer to Chantilly than Skyview.
It would be absolutely idiotic not to assign Oak Hill to Skyview. Otherwise you’d have to move other families living closer to Chantilly to another school to provide Chantilly capacity relief, and if they aren’t with doing something to provide Chantilly with meaningful relief the main justification for purchasing KAA goes up in smoke. Some of you Carson folks are so self-centered it almost defies belief.
It is not self centered to want our children to attend the same high school as their middle school friends. How awful would it be to be the only kids at your MS where everyone from your middle school except for you goes to Skyview?
There are plenty of split feeders in FCPS. If Carson were to remain a split feeder it would not be the end of the world. But, if they can align the Carson and Skyview boundaries by moving Oak Hill to Carson, so be it, but that could well mean moving other Carson kids to different middle schools. We should aim to provide Chantilly with some meaningful overcrowding relief, but at the same time Skyview is not going to be a huge school and FCPS absolutely should not be building an addition there (as opposed to retrofitting the existing buildings) when there are other schools in need. |
Take your meds, because this is just deranged. Oak Hill is largely supportive of, or reconciled to, moving to Skyview. |

Curious what the Crossfield crew would prefer if these were the only options:
1) Stay at Carson but switch to Skyview 2) Stay at Oakton but switch to Franklin |
| I suspect that Fox Mill moves to Hughes if it isn’t moved to Skyview. |
Absolutely #1 but I prefer Skyview in general because it's much closer to my home. Literally the only people I've heard say they want to switch to Franklin are people who have kids in AAP and whose kids would end up at Carson anyway. They are incredibly selfish. |
| Or the old elementary/middle school kids who parents want them to play sports at a "renowned" high school. It's out of control. |
' The RIO sports crew will want #2 for sure. They've already been pushing for it. Some of their kids are in AAP, some not. They see switching to Franklin as the way to stay at Oakton. Plus there will be AAP at all middle schools in a few years anyway, so the AAP kids that you all assume make Carson so amazing would be at Franklin anyway. |

I actually think Option E will be selected. RIO moms don't want Crossfield to get moved. Meren wants to protect SLHS and won't let Fox Mill go. This time Reid will show which schools will backfill Westfield. Lees Corners families will be given binary choices: move to Skyview or be assigned to Westfield. I agree Option E is the worst, but with that option Reid will face the least resistance. |
They have no idea how much resistance they’d face if they tried to move Lees Corner out of Chantilly. No one has seriously organized against this because the idea seems so far-fetched given the school’s proximity to Chantilly. People toss the idea out because there is so little confidence in Reid’s ability to come up with sensible proposals and then defend them. |
Agree. There's been no resistance only because it hasn't been proposed. |
| That makes no sense. You can't draw a permanent boundary and give one ES community a "choice" between two schools. |
What’s this referencing? |
Not sure. Maybe the poster who said Lee's Corner would be given a binary choice between Westfield and Skyview. That would be ridiculous when there are plenty of neighborhoods between Lees Corner and Westfield that are assigned to Chantilly--note those schools off Walney Rd. But, I agree that anything is possible with Reid. The foolish way they have rolled this out is puzzling. Loudest voices? |
