DA vs ECNL vs everything else

OP here on the FCV issue. So does any club do a better job at training/developing? The complaints I here above can be applied to Bethesda, McLean, etc. Are you folks saying that these clubs are only good for taking developed players and providing them with a platform to get to the next level?

Bethesda and OBGC both have a number of competitive boys teams that include many players who have been at those clubs since they were young.

Why would young players need this top dollar environment? Learn the game at a cheap local option and then if your player has the talent and desire to play at a higher level, move him or her at 11 or 12.

Who are You?

#1. FCV parent pretending not to be
#2. FCV coach
#3. FCV wanna be.

Give a group of kids of equal talent and DNA to Mclean, Bethesda, and Spirit, etc. and they will develop them better.

Their wins is not an indication of development. It's an indication of talent acquisition.

FCV is good at talent acquisition.

I think you can conclude that because of the fact that winning is so valued in the youth environment, that many players and families change clubs at least once or twice during the career of a youth player. Further, the environment seems to change on a yearly basis, new leagues, age groupings, coaching carousels etc. The result is it is a transient environment where families have to make new decisions every year. You could come to the conclusion that many area clubs do not actually develop, they recruit. I think the real answer is they do both, whatever is needed. FCV just happens to have had a combination of good fortune that makes it the most competitive in DA right now and high level players have come there to join the crowd. As soon as another club provides the winning formula, players will begin to gravitate there.

+1. I agree with that. And because of that, we would never even consider FCV. I heard one parent nickname them the "Cobra Kai" of youth soccer.

Then where is high level player supposed to go? Get a clue.

There are other clubs a high level player can go to.

My DD played for FCV and we decided to leave. We would not go back. The biggest issue is that I don’t think it was a positive environment. I don’t like how the coaches treat the players. I saw several of them berating players. One was yelling at two girls sitting on the bench that had just come off the field for a game and was yelling at them telling them that they are terrible and will never play for him again if they don’t improve and brought one of them to tears. Another one of the coaches in a training session told the girls that if they not kick the ball right he would kill them. When I realized these were the coaches that would be teaching my DD as she got older - bye bye.

Winning is everything at FCV and they really don’t care about the players. They are very disorganized and field space is an issue as well. Perhaps word is getting out about them. I think everyone in the area is a bit surprised by the lack of interest in FCV at tryouts.

For a long time they were the only option for top soccer in the area. Now with other options for ECNL and DA there is no reason for us to ever play there again.

I agree. A lot of people are leaving because they are not happy and realize there are other high level clubs out there that offer their DD the same opportunities minus the toxic environment. As a result FCV is struggling to field more than one team at each age group this year. NO teams at all for the U9 and U10 age bracket. So now they are trying to recruit entire teams incl coaches to join the club. I don't think non DA clubs like Loudoun, VDA, BRYC or any of the other clubs around here have this issue.
Truth is FCV should have never been granted DA status. Like the above poster noted they are not organized, struggle to have field access and simply don't have a viable and big enough pipeline to support the older age groups.
I wouldn't be shocked to see them loose their status in the near future.

I think it's likely FCV got their DA status based on ECNL performance + they do have some girls with NT status. No doubt though, that's no golden ticket to ongoing DA status, and we will see how the younger age groups do as things move forward. I do know there were some FCV pick ups at Spirit from 01 down. Not any large movement yet, but any movement at all is interesting.

I’m curious to know if any of these FCV DA players in the older age groups chose WS over FCV DA for next season. I don’t believe any 03s or 04s did. Very little movement, if any between the two DAs in those age groups.

Where did those 03's and 04's that fell off the bottom of the roster go? There must be a handful at each age group.

I doubt anyone would elect WS teams over FCV, McLean or Loudoun. The stats and records don’t lie, as the WS 03 & 04 teams are the worst in the country.
