Even in terms of governing partners, the women have different strengths, whether legislative or executive experience, and weaknesses in terms of electability issues. I can believe this is a very tough decision, but the wait is starting to get to me! |
True, and late-emerging prospects like Rice and Bass probably took longer to vet given long policy/legislative/activist records. |
Harris leads in the betting markets. Money is usually right. |
She has been leading there forever. If so, then why the delay and hesitation. There is something blocking Harris - hard to say what that might be. The KHIVE is quite a nuisance and might overshadow Joe. |
VP predictions are notoriously tricky https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/20/politics/biden-vp-pick-analysis/index.html |
Harris is also acting very much like the presumptive nominee from her tweets. |
I think the hesitation is over several things: 1) questions of trust (debate attack, likely oppo dumps on rivals) 2) whether she'd be a content and supportive #2 (obviously she'd be thinking about the presidency) 3) less ideal governing pick than some others (her litigation expertise potentially less useful than Rice on foreign policy, Bass on legislative side, Whitmer ready to step in with governors and pandemic response, Duckworth on military, Warren on the economy) and 4) polling negatives (polarizing--K-hive fanaticism could overshadow but also has high negatives). She's the most polished and charismatic contender, and an excellent fundraiser, but I can see major downsides from his perspective. If he wants an Obama-Biden-like partnership, she doesn't seem to be the best choice. Much easier to see that with Rice, Bass, Whitmer, or Duckworth. |
^^ also she'll be very easy to paint as an inconsistent flip flopper by the other side, whether on health care or criminal justice reform (Nytimes article yesterday offered a preview). She'll be dragged through the mud on the authenticity issue. |
My guess: Jill doesn't like her. |
Another thought?
What about the spouses? Have they been included. Pretty sure the spouses of male Veep candidates are usually part of the process. |
And Valerie, his sister. |
+1 Also, I don't mind Harris as a candidate. But I do not like her as a choice for Biden. Their chemistry is off. |
Jill mentioned that at one point, says she really enjoys Kamala's husband's company, but not much info otherwise. Presumably they've known Susan Rice's husband a long time, not sure about the others. Both Tammy D's and Liz W's spouses seem low-key and nice. Bass is unmarried. I wonder if spouses came to one-on-one's, to chat with Jill. |
+2 it's hard to see a good partnership dynamic there, agree chemistry is off. |
The spouse issue doesn't seem like it would be a dealbreaker, all seem fine. |
