Biden's VP?

^^ but I can get on board with a Whitmer because she’s an effective governor and has broad appeal. I concede my top governing picks all have electability problems she may not have. I hope the fact she seems to be a strong ally to Black communities would help offset disappointment, but I’m not sure.

They include sleeping with a married man twice her age who appointed her to her political appointments that paid her $400k. Failing to prosecute certain banks and individuals for mortgage fraud. She also ignored the pleas of the people to investigate and prosecute the police for suspicious deaths of young black men. Nor did she support laws eventually put into place by Governor Brown to help end racial profiling of the police in California. She went on record objecting to a law proposing all police where body cameras. She also opposed legislation requiring the AG’s office to independently investigate deadly police shootings. You will also be hearing the name Kevin Cooper if she is the VP (look up that tragic story) and her record on prosecuting Black men, opposing the legalization of marijuana, and the list goes on.

So this is the stuff that gives me such reservation around her politically. It just seems like a very slipppery slope with her. The timing for her interest is all wrong, because she doesn’t have any recent meaningful action that contradicts her historic action. And current public persona.

Add that in with the very obvious oppo dumps when we have been strengthened in a unified campaign otherwise — it just stinks to me. Stinks.

+1 The Biden team knows all this, trust. I think the Dodd comments were deliberately leaked to prepare the public for her not being the pick.

I think that was just Dodd talking to a donor who talked to the press. But interesting point.

The Axelrod comments are telling. If Sen. Harris or her operatives dumped opposition research in the press, then that could be a trust issue with Biden. The delay is also very bad for Harris as the perceived front runner. If she has not closed the deal by now, she may never. Biden is clearly looking for alternatives. Rice may be moving higher up into contention but Biden has not made up his mind.

I tend to think the Whitmer leak is a smoke screen. It could be a way to prepare the public for a surprise.

Since pundits insisted the pick would be a Black woman, I think it’s important to prepare the public in the event it might not be. I would have been shocked by a Whitmer announcement without this trial balloon. It gave me time to process why she might make sense as the pick even though I wanted a Black woman (not Harris though, that oppo dump stuff is appalling).

Why did you want a black woman? Isn’t that the very definition of racism? Picking someone strictly on skin color?
100% serious question, why is it ok to want a black person just because they’re black?

Black voters handed Joe the nomination and in return asked for a seat at the table. I respect that and think it’s fair. Besides Rice and Bass are the most qualified governing picks in the mix other than maybe Warren. Representation helps mend systemic racism and it’s quite racist of you to suggest this doesn’t matter in light of all the injustices suffered by the Black community.

It’s quite sexist of you to deny systemic misogyny and the many injustices suffered by woman - including while women- in this country. Rice and Bass have many great qualities- but experience governing are not among them. Black voters are not clamoring for an AA Veep, by and large. Whitmer is more qualified than either of them, Harris is also more qualified. We don’t need to disparage Whitmer because of her whiteness. That actually is racist.

Black African American voters did hand Joe the nomination. However, Kamala Harris is Indian-Jamaican-American, and she grew up rich and privileged. She knows nothing about the quintessential Black American struggle. Furthermore, she does not have kids. She only married at age 50, likely only to seem somewhat normal for national political optics. And she didn't earn her way into politics, she merely got on her back. She's a creepy Cali DNC Machine opportunist propped up by Big Tech.

Rice is at least wise. Whitmer appeals to white suburban women. And Michelle Obama would be a grand slam. I honestly believe Trump would feign illness and drop out if Michelle was Biden's VP.

No Governors and particularly first term Governors (which I think is all we have in contention from New Mexico, Michigan and Rhode Island). We need someone with experience I on a national and better yet global level.

And to put it in context Pence was in a Congress for 12 years and Governor for four years before he got the VP nod.

She honestly seems like the kind of person any of us would be friends with. But, I’m still voting for Trump!

I don’t think Michelle is as popular nation wide as you seem to think she is.

I have not read all these posts and it is crass to say Harris got her way into politics on her back but the issue of her being the girlfriend of a married man twice her age who appointed her to two cushy $400k appointments is not going away. It will come up time and time again...the “family values” candidate she is not.

Of course she did. Anyone can see that. It’s why Nancy Pelosi is working so hard to have her derailed. She will do ANYTHING to get ahead.

Please just pick Duckworth. She’s no drama and will make all these draft dodgers with their Ivy, SEC, and law degrees look like the soft boys that they are. Trump is the quintessential effeminate man masquerading as an alpha. I want Duckworth to rip the veil off the GOP.
