Yes it happened a month ago.

Why can’t we just “walk away”?

Iran wants reparations.

I get that, but would the US have to pay if we just leave and drop it? They could close the Strait but they can do that even if we do pay.

Yes. We have to pay. We attacked them unprovoked, committed heinous war crimes, and now we must pay.

I agree with the part in bold, but don’t quite see why the US would pay have to pay reparations if we just left. Ethically, we probably should, but that’s not my question.

Because Iran then would close the SOH leading to pandemonium. That economic and political pain would be much worse than working out an agreement. Leading up to the MOU Trump was desperate for a deal and was too weak to push back to Iran's demands that included reparations.

What would guarantee that they wouldn’t just close it again? “We want another $100b, Strait is closed”.

The only thing that will shut down the strait is Israel continuing the war. Israel must be controlled.

Iran struck a cargo ship going through the Strait today. So there’s that.

Seems that 70 ships went out on some other route, and Iran is mad as hell.

You are correct that Iran could threaten again. In that scenario, other countries with better ties to Iran (China, Russia?) could tell them to cool it.

The JCPOA had other countries on board (including China and Russia) to collectively restrain Iran.

I got that.
I still don’t see what we gain by giving them $300b+.

Why Iran is getting $2 million a ship. That was 140 million. They must be so mad!

The problem is no ships are coming back in.

There is no evidence that 70 ships paid anything to anyone.

Did Iran blow up a girls school? Oh wait no, that was us.

In terms of innocent civilians killed, who's killed more? Israel or Iran. US or Iran?

What does it take to be a "terrorist?"

Why should we gain anything? This war was unjustified. We're the ones who blew up a girls' school.

And started the war by dropping huge amounts of explosives in the Middle of negotiations.
We demanded complete and unconditional surrender that is how it started.

Pentagon officials know that real damage numbers, which Congress is demanding, will dramatically undermine claims that Secretary Hegseth has made to Congress in efforts to minimize the appearance of the cost of the war. Hence, they keep stonewalling congressional requests for the information.

Yes there is. Also the majority of tankers were ships carrying Iranian oil. So no fees on those tankers. Iran made a 3.2 billion this week on the 40 million plus barrels they shipped out of the strait plus whatever environmental and fast pass(line jumping) fees.

Trump does not care. He wants out now. US military has been so degraded under Trump and republicans that they are useless.

Such big win!

How can they do that?
