Per friend with personal knowledge, they're not pals. They went to high school together and ended up clerking for the Court at the same time and then in the Bush administration at the same time, but they were not friends. Not for lack of effort on Kavanaugh's part, but Gorsuch has always thought Kavanaugh was a bit of a buffoon. That's not who Gorsuch will want to tie himself to on the Court.
