Official Brett Kavanaugh Thread, Part 2

He would rather lie under oath, or make up statements like I didn’t go to parties, but loved drinking beer?

I ant believe he had the nerve to lie about the yearbook stuff. He thinks we are all idiots. It's a game to him. I believe Ford because her details and thought processes are too intimately familiar to me to believe she made that up but Kavanaugh does himself no favors by refusing to simply say "Look. I was a teenage boy in the 80s and I partied a lot. I wrote not flattering things about women in my yearbook because I was a jerky teenage boy who thought it was funny. As an adult who works with and respects women and has a wife and daughters, I have a completely different attitude toward women and regret the vile things I said about them in my youth."

But no. He's gonna cling to this farcical idea that he was perfect save an underage beer here or there. He is lying, he knows it's obvious he's lying and he doesn't care. He can't be on the Supreme Court. It's really that simple. Whether we ever find out the truth about what he did to Ford, and we won't because he's sidestepping an investigation that could clear his name if he were truly innocent of it, his lying to the senate is unacceptable. He's unfit. Find another conservative judge to do your bidding but this one can't be it.

Mildly curious, what investigation could clear his name?

Look, you also said you "believed Ford because her details and thought processes are too intimately familiar to me to believe she made that up."

That implies Kavanaugh cannot clear his name because there is nothing to clear.

The contradiction in your post means you simply want Kavanaugh to be guilty and it doesn't matter what he does or does not do, or how he conducted himself yesterday. You looked for guilt in him and you found it, because you wanted him to be guilty. So that's the prism by which you viewed the situation. That Ford's story would not hold up in a conventional investigation or trial or inquiry, that the other people Ford named have all said the party did not happen or in the case of her friend and classmate, that she never met Kavanaugh and was never at such a party, means nothing to you. That despite remembering these names, Ford cannot remember a bunch of other simple things like where this happened, when it happened, whose house it was, how she got home and all that, doesn't mean anything to you. That the confusion over her lack of details also strongly suggests that her memory may be playing tricks on her and that she confused Kavanaugh with someone else, doesn't mean anything to you. You simply want him to be guilty and in your twisted reasoning you've tried to persuade yourself that you're being balanced but you really are not.

I don't particularly care about Kavanugh and have no invested stakes in the matter. But I can see how this has exploded into a circus where all the participants and so many of the spectators are using it as a substitute for the other frustrations and fears in their lives and the actual innocence/guilt of the two people in question is irrelevant.

If Kavanaugh can’t control his anger before a Senate Committee, and if he can be so flippant and condescending to several (Democrat) members, on live TV, imagine what he’s like when he’s drunk and not in control.

I can only imagine how horrified current Supreme Court Justices are to think he might join them. And, to all the posters saying this would happen to anyone nominated by Trump, remember it didn’t happen to Gorsuch.

I agree with this. So many people who have been subject to sexual assault seem to be holding Judge Kavanaugh responsible for THEIR assault. He’s really become the whipping boy for MeToo. I think many people who blame him, know deep down he is totally innocent, but they blame him anyway. And, this despite a total lack of corroborating evidence.
To those of you who believe he is “putting on different personalities” because it is “politically expedient”......This man has been falsely accused of some horrible things. His reputation has been destroyed. The last 2 weeks has been hell for him and his family. What you saw yesterday was raw emotion that was totally understandable. ANYONE would have had the same reaction. He was defending his reputation, his integrity, and his livelihood.
And, to those who think he was too emotional or “too unstable” to serve on SCOTUS. That is pure BULL$HIT. He spent more than 30 hours a couple weeks ago testifying. He was organized, responsive, level-headed, articulate, and totally respectful to the Senators. Yesterday was a whole different ballgame. He was facing a panel of people, some of whom have called him “evil,” who have vowed to keep him off the court, and who have publicly come out and said, “I believe her.” These Senators were not presuming innocent until proven guilty. They went into this hearing with a presumption of guilt. What you saw was a man whose whole life was on the line.
I don’t blame him one single bit for showing passion and emotion. I would expect nothing less.

Because Gorsuch wasn’t the vote that would overturn Roe, pure and simple.

You try having false allegation after false allegation thrown at you publicly and have people say hateful things about you from your teenage years on - all of it false - and see how calm and composed you would be.

You know... I have a different thought. I wonder how horrified the current Supreme Court justices are about how this man has been treated. How his name has been dragged through the mud without any evidence. Mere allegations. Truth is, it could happen to any one of them and they know it. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them, or all of them as a group speak out after he is seated to express their disgust with the process.

BTW, her allegations are NOT evidence.

Her written statements ARE evidence.
Her testimony IS evidence.

Ask Cosby, Joe Paterno, Larry Nassar, they can explain how this works to you.

corroborating evidence in the cases above

Nassar, according to sources, had over 200 who accused him. Cosby had about 60, I think. Sandusky's case was a cover up, with multiple accounts of child abuse

Without corroboration, it's his word against hers.

I watched the hearing with an open mind and came away with many deep seated concerns about Kavanaugh’s character.

If this is a “job interview,” then wouldn’t “ban the box” apply?

Open mind, sure, yeah, ok, whatever.

With the Senate Judiciary Committee holding a vote at 9:30 A.M. tomorrow, a Senate insider has told Townhall that Kavanaugh has the votes to make it out of committee and the votes to be confirmed on the floor for a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court. Sens. Flake (R-AZ), Collins (R-ME), Murkowski (R-AK), and Manchin (D-WV) are expected to vote in favor of Kavanaugh. All the Republicans are voting yes. Also, in the rumor mill, several Democrats may break ranks and back Kavanaugh. That’s the ball game, folks.
