Why shocked?

wasn't the purpose to eliminate the prep centers? they seem to do even better in this new system

The only thing that has any chance of reducing highly prepped kids is teacher recommendations. Most prepped kids will have a perfect GPA. Most prepped kid can ace any standardized test. Most prepped kids have been coached on how to write a wonderful essay. The only potential weakness for highly prepped kids is that the teachers might be able to tell the difference between the truly brilliant kids and the kids who are hard workers who pre-learned the material, but aren't necessarily that brilliant.

But teacher recommendations are apparently racist, so they eliminated those as well.

They aren't objective and are often inconsistent. I once had a teacher who disliked kids who wore certain kinds of shoes seriously. Let's stick to objective measures.

Let's stick to a holistic review.

You mean soft racial and SES quotas? Let's not.

As you know racial quotas are against the law, admission decisions are race-blind. Please stop trying to mislead people with this nonsense. I get it you liked the old system because you could buy admission. It kept the poors out etc.

Exactly

Minimum wage liaison of FCPS board here, you need to do a better job than just posting the same sentence.
Racial quota is legal and encouraged as long as it doesn't used to discriminate certain race group, it widely adopted in employment and education. That's why there's fine prints in job postings specifying there'll be no discrimination etc.

Heh, when I first read these last two posts, I processed it as a critique of the two posts before that - because it would have made logical sense. But then I realized that it was probably just the same astroturfing poster(s) trying to sew discord and paint a false picture.

that poster seems to believe if they say that race matters on a race-blind admission enough they can dupe some fools into believing it or at least stir up trouble

The left is anti-meritocratic unless they can redefine meritocracy to include enough of the right types of kids and not too many Asians.

Not at all. The problem is the right thinks buying a test is meritocracy when in fact it's just buying the answers.

Buying the politicians is the left’s strategy now. Getting the answers right matters not at all to that crowd.

Asians don’t have to buy any tests because they can develop better tests for free.

Fact is. Alg2 in 8th grade is standard for many private prep schools that feed into the very good universities. If TJ gets watered down, we essentially have no FCPS school that will be comparable tp some of these preps

There are schools that actually prep kids so much they are called prep schools? Wow.

Yeah. Some students prepare and work hard. And some parents spend time supporting their kids. Best of luck to you. You'll need it!

TJ is a college prep. Every FCPS HS claims to be a college prep
