| Wow. It’s almost like fundamentalist organized religion represses sexuality and causes delinquent behavior. |

| I'm sure that's true ^^^^ but I bet he was abused too. Maybe at one of their many "conventions" they attended. |
| There’s more to this story. I’m betting Josh was molested as a child. |
I’m sorry but, no. Pedophilia is not caused by external factors. |
He probably was. Doesn’t excuse doing it to others. |
It actually is sometimes. They don’t know that it’s not normal. |
By whom? His Dad? Was there anyone else it could have been? JimBob seems to savvy to take a risk like that. |
How astute. Thank you. Here I thought all the molestation and devastating damage caused to children over the years by fundamentalist churches might have something to do with shame or bottling up sexuality, but you’re one sentence response has completely changed my mind. |
Also, most sexual abusers have been abused themselves. Either way, cloistering your 30 kids away and not teaching sexuality because of sin is doing wonders for this family. |
Whaaaaaat? Sorry, that’s just not true. There is no conclusive proof of what exactly causes pedophilia, but research always considers environmental factors which are external, and many professionals believe those to be significant in the development of pedophilia. In the criminal justice system it is well known by those of us who handle these cases both as defenders and prosecutors that the vast majority of child molesters have been victims themselves. HOWEVER, the vast majority of victims do not become offenders themselves. So there is more at play than just being victimized. |
Here’s an article discussing this issue: https://www.nepsy.com/articles/general/different-theories-examine-causes-of-pedophilia/ |
Very good chance. A 14-year-old doing what he did to his sisters has probably been a victim himself. And given his parents' attitudes and lax supervision, not surprising. Heck, Jacob Roloff was molested by a TLC producer. Who knows what went on in that house. That doesn't excuse any of his actions then or now, of course. Or whatever else he's done that we haven't found out about yet, which there is guaranteed to be. Because there's never "just this" or "just that' with these people. |
I know people who had house arrest and that was it. I am serious when I say nothing will happen. |
