How is the Supreme Court confirmation going to go?

This is me, a basic nobody out on internet land.

My sincere hope is that ACB is a sleeper for justice and not just a trump crony, that will do the right thing *if* she is confirmed. Something about her persona is authentic, other pieces she is throwing game out that people are falling for.

I’m more angry about the forced timing of this and Amy refusing to allow a confirmation. She would have garnered much more support from voters post-election if she showed that integrity. Right now, integrity is a trait so rare in politics, it is a soothing balm to our scorched skin.

Her words on the bench seem fair. My conflict: Is it possible to trust anyone from Trump? That is honestly the major bias I have against her. Is this someone that would remove my right to draw the line on what is acceptable or not in MY body? Why her and why now?

Life may begin at conception for some, but viability doesn’t occur until at least 24 weeks. There is no social security number assigned to a child in my womb. Opinions on abortion will always be controversial, as well as birth control.

A separation of church and state is critical. Can she uphold that?

I don’t know. These are interesting times.

She's signed her name to multiple declarations that life begins at conception and that abortion is murder. I don't see how someone could put those deeply-held beliefs aside. Looking forward to the Democratic Senators drilling down on that.

She is actually demonstrating a good understanding of the judicial function and comportment, canons of construction, legal precedent and Supreme Court history.

Go off though

No, she isn't. You conjured up nice word salad, though.

PP here and I agree. We can’t afford ignorance in a lifetime appointment. That is cementing complacency, she will always be a step behind as matters present themselves.

What, in the hearing, is making you say that? On what basis is she ignorant?

Well, I am someone that feels that way and again, I had an abortion. I also feel that way, and believe all women have a right to an abortion and birth control. I also know others who feel that way and support abortion and planned parenthood. People are complex. Religion and reality don’t always reconcile accurately in politics. Just because I believe a spiritual principle does not mean that I expect it to be legislated in law for a melting pot of American diversity.

That is why the separation matters. That is why my questions are what they are. I do believe if I can set it aside, others can. Is she one of those? That is what I don’t know, and that is the concern colored by Trump and his covid party forcing this through in the most unAmerican way.

Patrick Leahy needs to retire. He is making a fool out of himself.

It's in several articles -- maiden aunt provided childcare for 16 years.

I don't know about you, but I've never been able to keep a nanny or au pair or anything for that long.
Basically, I haven't found a family member willing to give up their own life so that I could have mine.

Of course this woman doesn't think there's a problem with a woman giving up everything for "the baby" -- as long as it isn't her doing the giving up.

Have you publicly signed several declarations that abortion is murder?

If I did would it change what I said? I think I did a petition in grade school once with posters and very offensive pictures on it and left a (guilt ridden) relative in tears. Doubt it is still around. If it is, would that change what I said?

This is how they should catch Amy. She has repeatedly said that, as a judge, she cannot express her personal views (on abortion, IVF etc.) yet at the same time she pointedly stated that “racism is abhorrent”, which is a personal view. Which is it?

I’m not the biggest Elizabeth Warren fan out there but I so love how she constantly talked about how her aunt moved across the country to help her out. Not all of us are that lucky.

She is brilliant and she is handling this extremely well...they can't touch her. Great job Amy.

I've stated for years and years, and its never more apparent than now, that there should be a mandatory retirement age for all congressman, senators, SCOTUS judges, POTUS, and VPOTUS. I'm done with the septogenarians.

I'd do the same (for now) - Dem woman

You're not a Dem woman. No "Dem woman" would be dumb enough to fall for ACB's memorized RGB quotes.

DP. It’s not about “falling for it” it’s about deploying the tactic. Good grief you’re tedious.

I am a dem woman! The Supreme Court is an independent and equal branch of government. She specifically stated that she wasn't appointed on unlawful promises to the GOP. However, she is answering as if the writing on the wall is being written in invisible ink.

Her personal beliefs have no precedence in judicial decisions. She just made it clear that she does not need to offer her personal opinion on same sex marriage because Obergefell v Hodges.

She might sweep in and lay a foundation that church will not dictate state. I'm not threatened by her. Vote Trump out and replace seats that are replaceable.
