Eye candy - did you see this thread:
https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/872061.page#16897072 A house in Kalorama by a well known designer - whomever posted pics from the house had the funniest outtakes (every once in a while when I see something plaid I think plaid: UR doing it wrong and giggle). Anyway, very curious what you think of this look. you seem to like cleaner lines and less clutter? There's a link on the second page of that thread that compares male vs female design aesthetic - I found it a very interesting read (and it made me appreciate parts of the Kalarama house a little more). |
I appreciate this house! It's lovely, even though it's not my style. I think real estate photographers with their wide lenses and over-exposing can make a home look garish when it's not. They try to fit the whole room from a doorway or corner when no human is going to use the room that way. They're trying to sell the space, not convey the vignettes or fabrics authentically. It's interesting that thanks to Home & Design, we can see what the place really looks like. Real Estate Photography (wide, overexposed shot so bright that it almost makes you squint): ![]() Shelter Mag Photography (soooo much calmer, probably closer to real life when it comes to color and brightness): Real Estate Photography (The photos is scream BIG and BRIGHT! Look at all the things!): ![]() Shelter Mag Photography (sit down in this cozy, quiet room): ![]() ![]() And I love the green, buffalo check guest room. Would I want it for my full-time bedroom? No, but guest rooms are like powder rooms. They're probably not used as much. Also, I LOVE it when people throw one thing in from a totally different time period. So the modern light fixtures in the traditional rooms is fun to me. I had a friend growing up who lived in a modern house and her mother had an antique sofa and chairs, but the rest of the main floor was MCM furniture. I thought it was so cool. |
NP. I'd look towards white rather than venturing into terracotta and orangy-beige wall colors. That really modernizes southwest decor. |
Thanks eye Candy, I agree. I'm still not entirely sold on the foyer walls, drapes, and couch all being that same pattern, but I do like the buffalo check room. While also loving the OP of that thread with their comments. ![]() |
OP, are you still out there? I miss this thread ![]() |
Agreed! One of my favorite pandemic escapes. Love you, Eye Candy OP! |
Sulking Pink by Farrow and Ball is a great color. |
OMG, I was obsessed with that blue entryway a few years back. I think it was in Southern Living? Thanks for reminding me of it!
OP, can I beg of you to provide some inspiration pics or designers who have successfully refreshed 1990s era McMansions / double height living rooms and entryways? Thank you so much for the mental vacation your posts have provided! |
Eye Candy here. Check out the Collins Interiors story asap. They walk through a house that might inspire, but the stories are 16 hours old, so you have 8 hours to watch them. https://instagram.com/collins__interiors?igshid=1ax9o7yh72lay |
Hi Eye Candy! Thanks for all of this lovely inspiration. I would appreciate images of styled narrow bookshelves in a living room which has a fresh traditional style. I have found many images of styled bookshelves but they all seem too cluttered or too farmhouse or like all the items came from Pier One. Thank you for any inspiration! |
I'm not sure how many books you have, but between the images with books and the ones with decorative objects, maybe there is some inspiration here? ![]() Not narrow, but obviously lots of shelving! ![]() Suzanne Kasler's house...not many books. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And if you don't like a lot of stuff, you could just use shelves for books and magazines. I think I remember reading that these are designer Mark Sikes' magazine collection. |
Thank you, Eye Candy, from the bookshelf pp! I loved seeing all and some are definitely in the vein that I seek so thank you! |
EyeCandyOP, we need you on this thread!
