Handmaid's Tale Season 2

For those of you who say that the show is unrealistic, this week's episode felt directly ripped from the headlines, especially when the pulled Hannah out of June's arms. Horrific.

It takes a lot for me to cry watching tv, but this week did it. The Hannah scene was heartbreaking. The only light point in it all seemed to be that her Martha seemed to really be nice and care for her.

The rape scene was by far the worst.

I also didn’t think Nick got hit, but they carried him away. And I could totally see the commander setting the whole thing up.

Finally - why the heck didn’t Nick just shoot the other eye and take Hannah and head north? They had a 3 hour window before they were do home. That could’ve gotten them pretty far into Vermont before anyone reported them missing.

Why are all the white men infertile?

We know that Nick's not infertile.

Nick's not white. He's half Asian

I don't know if Isaac is angling to replace Nick ... I think Eden and he are teenagers who like each other and are acting stupid. I think Fred is behind the shootout with Nick.

Yes, it would have been quite Machiavellian of Fred to set up Nick after June taunted him about paternity.

Fred DID say something to the effect of "you deserve this" to June as he was sending her off in the car...and I know I didn't think he had good intentions when he said it. Could he have set this up to be part kindness to June in letting her see her daughter again and part punishment, shooting Nick and stranding her?

Maybe upon learning of non-paternity, Fred decided to dispose of June and baby. Perhaps he no longer wants the child if it is not his.

Is Nick half Asian or the actor? I don't think his race of the character has been brought up.in the show and he "plays" as a white man...

Maybe they were all exposed to radiation in battle?

We learned in the Canada episode that whatever caused the decline in births was apparently linked to males. Majority of commanders who need handmaids are infertile, not their wives. But in this land of Gilead the male rules all so the problem must lie within the woman.

Next weeks preview doesn’t make me think the commander had set this up. I wonder if June could get him in trouble for the last ceremony, Hey is arranging to see Hannah was a buy off, team can’t tell anyone about the rape because she can’t tell anyone that she got to see Hannah

There was an AA commander at the celebration of birth (the birth that didn't yet happen) and he had got his own wife pregnant, "no handmaid for you then" I think they said.

They don’t say (in the book or show thus far) what caused the infertility.

If you have a child can you get another handmaid down the road?

That's a good question and would have been a good idea. But maybe sneaking across the border would have been just too impossible?
