Duggar son allegedly molested girls including sisters

I work from home, just turned on TLC, and they've yanked the shows, showing a different show in its time slot. There possible goes their gravy train.

I don't think Josh is a pedophile. I think he was a teen in a fucked up environment that acted out. My sorry for him is tiny compared to the girls he touched but I do feel sorry for him none the less. I feel like he is a victim of Got hard and his parents.

Look at the Arndt family(same cult as Duggars), grown sons (one nearing 40), not allowed to move out or date because their parents haven't approved a courtship yet. I can imagine a man in his 30s that has never even been alone with a woman has a pretty mentally unhealthy thought process.

This is seriously disturbing. It IS a big deal. Good grief.

I'm a big duggar fan and this doesn't change my views on them at all. Yes I was shocked to learn this but then I thought. Well everyone is human, everyone makes mistakes. I've made plenty in my life. I'm very glad they owned up to it and didn't deny these claims. Owning your mistakes is crucial and to me shows that they are human with flaws.

Yeah, once they knew the shit was about to hit the fan. Hard to deny something with police reports ready to be published.

I read somewhere that these large isolated families have significantly higher rates of incest. However, most of his victims were prepubescent, some very young. Curiosity with a relative of similar age doesn't sound outrageous, but with a preschooler it does.

They didn't own it. They hid it. For years. While holding themselves out as good Christians. If they owned it, they would have turned their son in for prosecution, because what he did is a crime.

I am as happy as the next liberal to see the hypocrisy of the religious right exposed, but I feel sick about it on a personal level. Sick for the girls and the way this just goes to show the value they place on them. Sick for Josh who needed more help than he got. Sick for the whole family that had been hysterically engaged in a kind of displacement exercise focused on controlling female sexuality to prove that they are pure and deny what happened.

Truly, sexual repression of this type never leads to any good.

Being so isolated that is who he had access to sadly.

I have been kind of a defender of the Duggars in the past. I'm non religious and about as far as you could get from them (childfree by choice), but I thought they seemed like good people raising nice kids.

No more. I am disgusted by the lies and cover up that is coming out. How he went to a "sympathetic" cop, claimed they got help but actually just sent him to work construction... it really reads similarly to the FLDS cult to me (Construction, coverup, not involving authorities).

Their poor daughters.

This goes beyond the garden-variety mistskes of humanity. Covering up pedophilia and then selling themselves as the epitome of family values. Unforgivable, and they deserve to lose their show and the ability to capitalize on this false image. Their son committed a crime, plain and simple.

Jim bob told the police in 2006 that they sent josh to a counseling program in 2004. Then Michelle said no, it was actually just staying with a family friend doing a renovation project.

Yes, I read this too. Evidently Jim Bob and Michelle weren't comfortable with mainstream counseling programs because they felt it would expose Josh to things they didn't agree with. Instead, they sent him to do some kind of manual labor. And then there was the stern talking to by that cop friend of theirs who was later convicted and sentenced to a long prison term for child porn.

Pre-scandal I was thinking that is no different than what we hear from other strict religions, and how their daughters must feel blamed all the time.

Then this news comes along. I cannot imagine how much guilt those girls must have piled on them. No wonder poor Jinger was crying at the wedding saying she was not worthy. This is just so sad.

I'm honestly more outraged at this more.

I think that's a very rational and real fear, honestly. A lot of kids leave juvenile detention worse than when they entered. However, they didn't get him any real counseling, either.

They made a lot of changes after they found out, including separating the children by sex (and separating Josh entirely in his own room), bringing cameras in to the house, etc. They tried to marry him off young, and that fell through. Eventually they found him a wife, who is (so far) sticking by him.

Holy crap, so the answer, according to them, to child molestation is to marry him off young?! These people are utterly demented. I've watched the show for some reason this past season so all of this back story is interesting to say the least.

This is what disturbs me the most about it.
