Are any of the K acceptees on this list summer birthdays, meaning turning 5 in June, July, or August of 2009?

In the alternative, did any parents of kids who will turn 5 in Summer 2009 apply their child to private pre-K, and get accepted in that grade?

I would suggest starting a separate thread asking about how summer birthday children fared. GL!

The whole process is a lotto but they just don't tell you unlike the charter schools. They put all the qualified candidates in a box and pick the winners. Those who get picked congrats and those that don't it doesn't mean you are not a qualified family.

My DS is an August birthday and he was accepted in K for Sidwell.

Yes.

Wow. So they didn't even encourage you to think about holding him back? Note that I'm not pro-holding-back, but things haven't worked out very well for us trying to plow forward...

Yes.

I am glad to see that Sidwell is encouraging kids to matriculate at the appropriate grade.

Congratulations!

Better luck. Seriously. At the PK/K level in my mind it's nearly impossible to make meaningful distinctions among probably 50-75% of the applicants. Sure, rowdy kids or ones with learning challenges maybe can be weeded out. But after that there are still 5 or 10x more qualified applicants than spaces. So the schools look for "other" things, whether it's really high WPSSI, diversity, money, prominence, or a combination. No matter which of those you have or don't there's probably 4 kids who have it who didn't get in and one that did, and there's nothing more to explain it than a roll of the dice.

I think the reason people are particularly curious about multiple acceptances is that they suggest either that lightning struck twice or that some factor other than luck was in play.

Okay. D-day is here. We have received nothing in the mail. We applied at over 1/2 dozen. Heading home for lunch, I can't wait until the end of the day!

We got multiple accepts and we were told (by three AD's) that everything they saw (playdate), everything they read (recs, wppsi report) and our assessment (application, interview) of DD was aligned. We did not overstate DD's abilities. She is a bright kid but she IS average. Most kids with educated, enlighted parents can get into private school. Are the parents deluded enough to believe that a 99%+ FSIQ = genius & automatic accept? Yes! That's one of the reasons the "waitlist" was created.

PP. we got multiple accepts too...and we were the same. We didn't "sell" our kid...we were normal and not one whiff of desperation. Worked...
