Just stay at Oakton.

Skyview doesn’t need you if you’re going to complain like Karen’s all because Skyview doesn’t have a shiny football stadium.

This whole thing has been so tense and poorly planned.

What part of modify the building and add athletic fields before conducting yet another boundary study does FCPS not understand?

And you people have made it worse that now the Western part of Franklin farm could be split up and you’re elementary school can be cut up too.

Also, why does modified scenario 2 include a part of Dogwood nobody asked for.

The elementary schools that should be at Skyview are.

And the proposed Silver Line ES that may or may not be needed depending on all of these developments happening near Coates and the yields of students near the proposed site.

Dixit and McDaniel are Reid loyalists. They don’t want to be seen as encouraging public criticisms of the scenarios outside the structured process. They’ll probably just tell people to put their comments in the boundary tool.

They paid oakton price to buy the house in oakton hs. They did not mind the commute to oakton when they bought the house and still do not mind that. This right here is the answer. We bought houses in the Oakton district and absolutely knew the distance from our neighborhoods to the high school.

While I strongly prefer Oakton HS, my biggest concern is that scenario 1 is absolutely bananas in the way the board is proposing to split just a few Crossfield neighborhoods and send that handful of kids to Carson/Skyview. So my kids will have spent 7+ years with their peers at Crossfield, most of their class would move onto Franklin/Oakton, and then they would start MS knowing maybe 5 kids at a school of 1,400 (Carson). The math isn't mathing, and there is a plethora of research that shows what a terrible idea this is from a mental health standpoint.

There's nothing compelling about this. Everyone knows where their zoned high school is when they purchase a house and they also know that can be changed at any time. It makes NO sense to send Herndon kids all the way to Vienna to Oakton when there are going to be 800 empty seats at Westfield and 400 empty seats at South Lakes.

I find students' mental health pretty compelling, but to each their own.

Rezoning your house from Oakton to a close by high school has nothing to do with your HS kids mental health, since they will be grandfathered into Oakton.
More sleep will be great for future kids' mental health though.

Many of us don't have high schoolers who will be grandfathered anywhere, which is why we're concerned. My kids are in elementary and middle school.

Then they will go to whatever middle and high school they go to with the rest of your neighbors.

No they won't, that's the point. Scenario 1 breaks up Crossfield neighborhoods. Four districts will have buses going down the same street. Crossfield shouldn't be a 3/4-way split feeder (Carson, Franklin, Hughes) (Skyview, Oakton, South Lakes, Chantilly). Not to mention, a lot of these kids that are 6th graders now, will have to go to Carson for 1 year and then switch to another new school (Franklin) with a whole other group of new kids. They won't have the 2 years in MS to make friends going into HS.

Your last part isn't a great argument because right now, Crossfield kids are the only ones from Carson that go to Oakton. None of their new friends are going to high school with them. At least this way, in 8th, these kids will be at Franklin with Waples and Navy kids going to Oakton with them.

Navy AAP kids are at Carson currently and most of them are going to Oakton. At least 100 kids or more.

They tend to stick to their little AAP groups. My Honors child at Carson does not know any kids from Navy or Waples Mill.

That must just be your kid. My Carson AAP kid (from Waples) has a ton of friends from the other feeder schools. They hang out outside of school as well - recently going to the Vienna town carnival thing and they all met up at the mall one day over the long weekend. I don't think anyone is "sticking to their little AAP groups."

That Dogwood neighborhood is Polo Fields. No one there sends their kids to Dogwood - most kids go private or are at Fox Mill/Lake Anne/Sunrise Valley. It’s odd that it’s part of the Dogwood boundary but no one cares enough there to fight it.

The SB and Reid have failed the schools. Having some schools between 75-85% capacity and others at over 105% when there is a new high school and plenty of space at other schools is irresponsible. Decimating schools like Westfield and South Lakes to ensure the rich constituents are taken care of is just plain wrong and goes against the principles of education. These schools will lose electives and teachers and continue on a downward spiral. These redistricting decisions are so blatantly classist and racist. Vote for a new SB folks.

Fox Mill Woods doesn't want to go to Oakton, they want to stay at South Lakes.

I'm a Crossfield parent and I very much would like my kids to go to Skyview, BUT I want them to go there with their friends and classmates. One of my children has a lot of good friends in the Scenario 1 neighborhoods, so it wouldn't be a big deal, but the other one does not have ANY close friends in these neighborhoods so it would be pretty devastating.

I've talked to a lot of families and the vast majority of people I know with younger kids were pro-Skyview, but they have not been as vocal as the parents of older kids.

Not to mention that the new school will have plenty of FARMS kids. This is not about rich constituents. It is about an area that needs a high school--including high FARMS and UMC. Why should they have to stay at a school that divides them from the rest of the school community? Where do you think Chantilly kids are going to go?
If FCPS really cared, they would eliminate the classist IB program.

Back in the day, "Reston schools for Reston kids". Polo Fields is kind-of/sort-of Reston. And there isn't any logical ES to move Polo Fields to. If there was one, it'd be Floris, but, in the years since Polo Fields was developed, Floris has had its boundary trimmed several times to keep it at a reasonable size/capacity.

Floris? They would have to pass McNair to get to Floris. It's definitely closest to Dogwood.
