You're being ridiculous. Snow is not concrete. Ice isn't even concrete, although what we have isn't that. People can shovel. People can walk on sidewalks, cleared or not. They can walk through yards when they need to. It is fine for school to open.

You say that but I bet you would be the first to Sue if your kid was hit by a car because the piles of snow and ice blocked the driver’s view. In my car I can’t even make turns except for green arrow because I can’t see through snow!

Drive more carefully if you're worried about being sued after hitting a child.

I also think the risk of a kid falling into the street when they are climbing over a parking lane where the plows have left a bank of ice higher than their waist with traffic on one side, is significantly higher than a kid falling into traffic when a bus pulls up to the curb they are standing on.

Truthfully, I have no bloody idea what you mean here. If you're worried about your kid, walk with your kid. If you're worried about hitting a kid, then you should drive slower. We've been out a lot this week. It isn't nearly as bad as you seem to think. But yes, you'll end up walking on snow.

No one is saying it's literally concrete-are you this dumb? Even Capital Weather Gang is referring to it as "snowcrete" due to its similarities with concrete.

But it's not impossible to shovel. It just takes a little more effort.

It is impossible if you don’t have the right tools and a certain level of physical fitness.

Even then it's a spectrum of how long it is going to take you. The worse the tools, the longer the time. The more breaks you need to take because you're out of shape, the longer the time.

No one knows anything. Right now it is about 21 degrees with a wind chill making it feel like 16. Monday morning at 7 am it will be 13 with the wind chill at -1. I don't care what they do in upstate NY or Minnesota, this cold streak is horrible.

The problem is it is not going to get better anytime soon. The conditions could be bad for a month or more. MCPS needs to weigh the harms of an extended closure, which are considerable, against the hazardous conditions and potential injuries that may result. It's not an easy answer honestly. In a week I don't think conditions will be much better..maybe marginally.

Stop being a drama queen. It's going to go above freezing on Tuesday, which will enable MCPS to finally clear the lots on schools and residents to clear their walkways. They are not going to be closed for a month.

I think it will be a two hour delay perhaps mixed with specific school closures.

Expect the two hour delay message to include specific warnings about sidewalks and requests for students take buses or rides with parents to avoid student parking.
