You say that but I bet you would be the first to Sue if your kid was hit by a car because the piles of snow and ice blocked the driver’s view. In my car I can’t even make turns except for green arrow because I can’t see through snow! |
It's compacted snow, not ice. But if you want to call it ice, fine. The point is, it isn't smooth like we get when snow melts and refreezes. It's a pain to shovel, although certainly possible. But it is also relatively easy to walk on. |
Drive more carefully if you're worried about being sued after hitting a child. |
You have a smartass answer for everything when people are voicing actual concerns. Grow. Up. |
No one is saying it's literally concrete-are you this dumb? Even Capital Weather Gang is referring to it as "snowcrete" due to its similarities with concrete. |
Good point. I’m not even sure how to plan our first couple of days back. Also, hs kids are always grouchy, tired and half asleep on their first day back |
This. All the news outlets are referring to it as snowcrete and saying it is impossible to shovel |
But it's not impossible to shovel. It just takes a little more effort. |
It is impossible if you don’t have the right tools and a certain level of physical fitness. |
I feel seen |
No, it’s not “impossible.” But after a few days it’s dense, frozen, and bonded to the ground. Calling it snow at that point feels generous. At this point, you’re not shoveling snow, you’re excavating…and many people aren’t physically capable of removing it on their own, nor can they afford to pay someone to do it for them. |
| So no one actually knows anything? Does it still look like at least a delay? |
No one knows anything. Right now it is about 21 degrees with a wind chill making it feel like 16. Monday morning at 7 am it will be 13 with the wind chill at -1. I don't care what they do in upstate NY or Minnesota, this cold streak is horrible. |
I just saw this, but have no idea how legitimate the source is: https://www.montgomeryfix.com/articles/sidewalks-narrow-roads-may-force-monday-mcps-closures |
There’s walls of piled up ice taller than many fifth and sixth graders at several intersections. It’s going to be a scary Monday if we open. |
