Embarrassing. Montgomery County and MCPS should be ashamed.

Contact your STATE reps. Wes Moore to declare a state of emergency because they could not budget and plan.

MCPS stayed at home when they should have people clearing the parking lots. it's on them and they need to stop blaming others.

They don't have "resources" to get this done. County contractors cleaning roads overtime this week. Once they are avail, maybe the remaining schools will be cleared. bus depot and buses Monday morning. It's not happening.

+1 tbf many MCPS staff have been working hard, but it's the facilities and operations people (who are disproportionately Black and Latino and the lowest paid) and not the disproportionately White admin staff. They should have opened offices as soon as the county government opened back up. Having everyone home when main roads have been clear for days is not helpful. If their school was not plowed or they were snowed in they should have been instructed to work virtually.

We knew freezing rain was a possibility. They should have had a crew out on Sunday dealing with snow when it was powdery and then dripping ice melt. You wouldn’t have this impossible mess if you planned ahead.
And the county seriously has to talk to the schools. I walked by the MS near me. The long stretch of sidewalk in front of it is clean but you can’t access the sidewalk due to the huge piles of snow blocking the entry points.
And since I am out walking a lot, I can see how those that put some extra effort in on Sunday aren’t dealing with an ice block mess this week. This storm wasn’t a surprise.

Closed if no clearing over the weekend (there is tomorrow tho to clear) and this stuff is not melting with temps so low

They said work will be ongoing over the weekend, but they also said there need to be safe sidewalks for schools to open so even if school grounds are finished by Sunday they may still wait until Tuesday to open.

Sure they do. Did you read the CESO Transportation Audit that detailed all the ways MCPS could eliminate waste and save tens of millions of dollars? Don't worry, Taylor didn't read it either.

It'll will be 38 next Thurs a week from today. Maybe then they will reopen

Our PTA volunteered to clear the sidewalks near the school. Reach out to your PTA to see what you can do to help! The contractors are working overtime but this ice is stubborn. It took them 5 hours just to clear the staff parking lot!

Should have added a sarcastic alert on that PP.

Hard to believe but not everyone is out there looking for a lawsuit. I'm a teacher and I went and shoveled my school as much as I could these last few days. If I hurt myself doing it then that's my own dumb luck.

What is happening to other places hit by the same storm? Like is this real? Can someone call Bubba and Jethro to make a blow torch ice melting machine so we can get back to normal? This is not brain surgery!

Maryland is the only state in the US where operating a flamethrower is illegal.

Anonymous wrote:It will be closed Monday. They have already stated activities in schools closed Sat and Sun. If they are not cleaning over the weekend all the 211 schools, buses, depot, sidewalks, walkways, moving the huge snowbanks away, this stuff is not melting until maybe a Monday when the temp will be whopping 33 degrees. Tues delay or possibly closed if this County still can't figure it out.

They clearly stated they will be clearing parking lots and bus loops over the weekend. Who said they aren’t clearing snow over the weekend?
