Why are almost all other in person businesses open no problem (and have been since Sunday!)?

Who are all the people I see driving on the roads? Surely some of them must be students or teachers?

What conditions would be acceptable to you to return to school? Because another day of this level of cold and incompetent plowing will not improve things. If you are waiting for a full melt it looks like end of next week.

DP here - the problem is buses. Schools are not going to reopen if they think the buses will not be able to run their routes. It doesn't matter if the teachers and some of the kids can get there in a snowmobile or a tank.

I am a teacher. Years ago I worked at a school where a parent slipped on a patch of ice in the parking lot and sued the school.

Every single parent whining about schools being closed has no idea the risk schools take when they reopen, because you’d be the first ones to sue if you or your child were injured by remnants of the storm. Pour yourself a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy the days. Spring will be here before you know it.

Last year my DC and several other kids slipped when they got off the school bus at a private school that still had ice. School had decided not to follow MCPS. One kid had a concussion. Schools cancel for good reason.

The legal standard is reasonable care under the circumstances, with schools having an “in loco parentis” duty to the children.

I don’t have an SUV or a heated driveway. Or even a driveway at all. I have driven around plenty. People in DC who can’t “make it in” are just too lazy to shovel out their car. Quit it with the class warfare remarks and stop waiting on the DC government to come save you/plow you out. Time to take some personal responsibility.

What am I supposed to do? Shovel my entire street that hasn't been touched? I shoveled my car and have cleared it but it can't go anywhere with my street not plowed. If your kid is in my class, they'll have a sub tomorrow.
