Don’t think so, it’s just part of the fantasy fun element.

I don't mind it as much when it's just detailing, but I found Michaela's red dress to be totally absurd and it completely took me out of it. It was so obviously a modern fabric and using modern techniques.

What about Araminta’s earrings? The ones that went all the way up her ear to the cartilage (they were black). I can’t believe those would have been around back then but admittedly I don’t know much about the period dress/styles.

According to this website adorned ear cuffs were a thing for rich people in that period:

Interesting! But didn’t Araminta’s look too modern?

The show is not meant to be a true period piece. Odd that her ear cuffs bother you but not the song choices or diverse "ton". Not of that is realistic.

They don’t really bother me. But the link PP sent to show they had ear cuffs back then didn’t really support the ones we saw on the show. They showed over the ear ones in the painting. I was confused.

Michaela left suddenly after saying she would stay. Rude! I don’t like this storyline at all.

So who do people think Season 5 will be about? The show creators have confirmed it's going to be either Eloise or Francesca. I think they are clearly trying to set it up to be Francesca by making Michaela such a big character this season and already offing John. It also feels like they intentionally linked Eloise and Hyacinth this season, which would make sense if they planned to set up Hyacinth's season during Eloise's season.

HOWEVER I am bored with Francesca's storyline and don't feel that she and Michaela have great chemistry. If they were going to do a gender flip and give Francesca a lesbian storyline, they needed to cast actors where you really felt the chemistry from the beginning. I don't. They tried to manufacture it this season by showing them at odds and then becoming friends, but it feels forced to me and I do not buy it. Which has also been true of the last two seasons (just have not felt the heat from these couples even though I liked many of the characters, except Colin who I find so dull).

For those reasons, I really hope they zag and do Eloise. Which technically would not be a zag since in the books, Eloise is #5. They just flipped Colin and Benedict's stories. Eloise is the much more fun character between Eloise and Francesca, and I also just feel like the character is due for a romance and I'm tired of seeing Eloise on the fringes of things being the peanut gallery instead of being truly in the mix.

I also just think Eloise's story sounds like more fun. No book spoilers, but... it's just a better story.

Regarding Araminta's ear cuff, they probably did it to cover Katie Leung's cartilage piercing. In other episodes, she actually has a bandaid over it that is visible in some scenes which made people even more mad than the ear cuff:

Also I found it mildly distracting that Araminta Gun has the same first name as Cressida's mom, Araminta Cowper. Araminta was a very uncommon name in England in the 1800s, so it's wild to see it on two characters in the same show. There are other name anomalies on Bridgerton, but that one annoyed me more than most because it seems lazy and can't be blamed on the books (Cressida's mom does not have a first name in the books and is just referred to as Lady Cowper).

I can’t imagine Eloise in se* scenes though - they’ve made her character so buttoned up and girlish.

I assume she will get a makeover like Penelope.

Her entire outfit! It looked like skirt over pants. I know it wasn't but it also looked...future-istic.

When I looked up the historical info about earrings many people noted that hair styles often covered the ears, so the hair could have been an easy fix for the piercing.
