Madison was offered and declined an intimacy coordinator. |
Retail and restaurants don’t pay what sex risk does. |
This is true but you do know who won Best Actress last year right? Emma Stone in Poor Things. She is . . . You guessed it a sex worker in the movie! And there were so many gratuitous sex scenes it was ridiculous. |
One of the worst Oscars in a long time.
Conan - not funny To much LA wild fires especially when other areas have suffered Did they play any songs nominated? Morgan Freeman honoring Gene Hackman, I assumed they didn’t have time to honor Gene in Memoriam but they did. Also honored Quincy in Memoriam and then a long musical number dedicated to him. The 007 bit - they gave some award at a previous Oscar award show (the ones they think are not important) and then do the 007 bit but the winners don’t come on stage. Really? Adam Sandler bit, stupid. |
I thought the Quincy tribute was one of the highlights. I was up and dancing. I also thought Morgan freeman’s tribute to Gene was touching. They’ve done that sort of thing before. I agree the 007 bit was super bad. And normally I would think it was bad not to play the nominated songs but they were all awful—the wicked song was great and a fun way to kick it off. I wonder if the French lady who won for the song realized that her song was so bad they didn’t give it a full musical number. That movie had some real talent in it so it’s too bad they couldn’t find some decent song writers for them. Really weak year for songs. |
I think Demi succeeded at getting back on the radar and will hopefully get other big roles now that she’s demonstrated she still has a fan base and can act. There’s no reason to trot out Nicole Kidman or British actresses when Demi is here. |
Thank you. I didn't know this. |
Yes, it’s true that the director let Madison decide whether she wanted an intimacy coordinator or not. But I also think that as a 25 year old trying to turn in the “raw” performance her director clearly wanted, was not really in a position to say she wanted one even if she really did. That’s a power imbalance there. |
disagree about Conan who was great. It was lighter and sillier than usual (wisely stayed clear of the political hurricanes whirling around us) and this is all many of us can handle at the moment. Agree the Adam Sandler bit was dumb and did not enjoy Raye’s version of Skyfall. But I enjoyed it overall. |
There is a man we met a church. He converted to Christianity, he’s old. In his younger days, that was his job. He got forced into it. He’s so ashamed of that work. His conversion brought him peace, finally. And you can see it through a lens of shame, or not. And if you don’t see it through a lens of shame, then you won’t carry a weight. However, if you grow older actually sit and think about your old job, what role you played in others’ lives, etc etc, you may naturally feel shame and want to have it absolved. |
+1 Why was it even an option? From a studio liability standpoint it is really easy to get sued or bad press if something doesn’t go right. On a movie set with such explicit scenes an intimacy coordinator should be required. It’s like not having a stunt coordinator because the stunt people say they can handle it on their own. |
I wondered about that. So gross. |
I came across an IG reel of the 1986 Oscars. It was so refreshing. People looked good, but like themselves. |
Demi can't hold a candle to British actresses like Kate Winslet, Emma Thomson, Judi Dench, etc. or to Nicole Kidman. I like her, but she's not a great actress. She happened to get a really good role, but she might not get another. |
I sometimes lurk on r/sexworkers, a subreddit where most of the sex workers are insistent that they are not "survival sex workers". It's certainly interesting. |
