I mean, Mikey Madison was fine, but in no way was this an award winning film in any way. The middle part with them driving around looking for Ivan was so incredibly dull.

Really disappointed because when it won, I was so excited to see it. What a complete letdown.

Most of the Best Picture nominees this year were awful.

I haven’t seen any of them except Emilia Perez and Anora, but who on earth thought these two were Oscar winners? What happened to the years of wonderful, magnificent films? Makes me so sad to see this trash that is being made now.

If you look back over the history of Best Picture winners, there are many movies that won that, in retrospect, should not have won. Unfortunately, this year just continued that trend.

When you have men stuck in a teen mind this is what you get usually. Not all of them were terrible but they didn't get nominated. They could have given the best movie to an animated film. Have they ever?

No. Only 3 have ever been nominated for Best Picture:

Beauty and the Beast (lost to The Silence of the Lambs)
Up (lost to The Hurt Locker)
Toy Story 3 (lost to The King's Speech)

Lion King

Lion King wasn’t nominated for best picture.

Living for Sheryl Lee Ralph saying what we all knew.
“I have told people over and over and over again: The fastest way to an Oscar is either on a pole or….I’m telling you, sex sells baby.” not one lie was said

But Demi Moore didn't win an Oscar for Striptease.

DCUM is very conservative. Not politically, but socially a ton of hall monitor types who are quick to clutch their pearls.

NP and I really don’t care about nudity in movies. But the Oscars are constantly rewarding women for playing sex workers. It’s like they think they are so liberal but it is the opposite.

If you want to win an Oscar, make a film about (1) Hollywood itself, (2) the Holocaust, or (3) sex workers. If you can combine all three, even better.

Gee, I wonder who is voting in the Academy?

Even Demi Moore was shocked she lost to this mediocre film. It’s this decade’s Crash.

+1

It was the same with Lily Gladstone losing to Emma Stone last year. One performance was really subdued and nuanced and restrained but still showed the emotional weight of what was going on. The other she either acted like a toddler or was having sex. It was a no brainer to me but not Hollywood.

A similar thing happened when Glenn Close was expected to win for The Wife, which was a masterclass of subtlety and power, and then they gave the award to Olivia Colman for The Favourite, which was nonstop squawking and crying.

I loved The Favourite

And it's ok if you don't like Yorgos Lanthimos but the Academy does

They don't like him enough to give him his own Oscar!

+1

And they didn’t nominate Kinds of Kindness for anything.

I mean…..everyone there, from Conan the host -> Adam Sandler even (!) were excited that he was there - I mean currently he IS a pretty big deal right now.

He could have anyone > yet he chooses to date a talentless reality star who runs a beauty business that sells very subpar beauty products.

I have no issue w/Kylie as a person or as a celebrity, I just do not see her in the echelon of A-list Hollywood.

At least Kylie look nice for the Oscars. Her boyfriend (who I do find charming) looked like a 21 year old dressed as a highlighter.

She doesn’t look nice. I find her painful to look at - a completely plastic face and tasteless clothing. It’s really sad how much work all of the Kardashians have had done. And Kylie at such a young age to boot.

Because she's a really bad actress. Sometimes decent actresses play sex workers and when they do they usually win awards.

At least 14 of them have won an Oscar: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/actors-won-oscars-playing-sex-workers/emma-stone-in-poor-things/

Just watched the last half of Anora. I loved Igor. Hated every other character in this terrible movie.

I agree. It's too much and too young.

I do think it's interesting when there are some pics you can kind of see her original self. This was one:

Every time I see a before pic of Kylie Jenner I am just shocked. Completely unrecognizable. It is VERY uncomfortable to look at.

Even those Instagram photos are not what she looks like in real life. They are completely filtered. At the Oscars she looked fine. Not saying she looks all natural by any stretch but she looks fine. She does look like ten years older than Timmy though.

Anonymous wrote:All the awards for Anora were kind of gross. An industry awarding a former heroin addict for showcasing a young actress willing to do softcore porn scenes to raise her profile. Because otherwise you really don’t get an award for being the 10000th actress to do a Brooklyn accent.

Who is the former heroin addict?

The director, Sean Baker. He recovered from his heroin addiction and then proceeded to make film after film about sex workers. In Anora, he cast Mikey Madison, then in her early 20s, to strip and perform graphic sex scenes and gyrations nude without an intimacy coordinator. For this they are both rewarded by the entertainment industry.

Maybe it's his redemption but what a message that sends to young actresses. Meanwhile better performances were overlooked.

Madison was offered and declined an intimacy coordinator.

Yes, it’s true that the director let Madison decide whether she wanted an intimacy coordinator or not. But I also think that as a 25 year old trying to turn in the “raw” performance her director clearly wanted, was not really in a position to say she wanted one even if she really did. That’s a power imbalance there.

I mean, do you have any proof of this? If you don’t have any inside information then it’s just your opinion.

You can search for yourself about the interviews the director and Madison have given about the film. They are proud about the “rawness” of the film because it didn’t have an intimacy coordinator. And yes, I think it’s a power imbalance.

There’s also the fact that the director makes all his movies about sex workers and follows loads of OF women on his instagram. He seems like a bit of a red flag.

He finalized the finalized the screenplay for Mikey after watching scream and once upon a time in Hollywood and referred to her as a "sexy teenager." There was a huge power imbalance imo as well. There should have been an IC not only for Mikey sake but other's as well.

You prudes are basically the only ones saying this.

You don’t read Reddit, obviously.

God, no. Why would anyone?

I love how the concept is so gaspworthy to you yet you waste your time in this cesspool.

Well, apparently you spend your time in both places, so what does that say about you?

I don't like her dress.

She obviously thinks her shoulders are her best feature…but she is wrong.

Since she is flat-chested and doesn’t have a waist, her stylist needs to explain to her that she needs a dress that creates a defined waist and adds shape up top. Her skintight mummy wrap isn’t doing her any favors.

She’s actually a very attractive woman—great face. But she’s gone overboard with body building on such a tiny frame.

She's an ad against steroids.
