Nope. Like most of her song, it’s meh.

Nope. Nope.

Jay Z was an ass and Beyonce has always been terrible. I said what I said. She has no talent and if ever there were a manufactured romance it is she and Jay Z!

Also, Miley will always be an unfortunately tattooed child. Thankfully she stopped sticking out her tongue every chance she could.

Agree about Beyonce. Lana Del Rey should have won instead of Taylor Swift who was a disgrace to not acknowledge Celine Dion more. Also hated the weird head lock thing she did in pic with her afterward.

Anonymous wrote:Everyone is focusing on the Celine snub, but I actually think Taylor's first acceptance of the night was just as rude, and not just because she plugged her album (that was a little tacky but it's not unheard of for an artist to mention current/upcoming work in an acceptance). Here's the part I found weird:

"I want to say thank you to member of the Recording Academy for voting this way, but I know that the way the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans, so I want to say thank you to the fans for telling you a secret [new album announcement]."

I am aware that the weird wording is likely just because she wanted to plug the album and needed a way to segue from "I want to thank the academy" to the announcement. But when you actually listen to what she says in order to do that, it's rude!

She's saying that the academy is just voting for the album that is most popular with the public. The academy is made up of artists, producers, and technicians who work in the industry. This is not the People's Choice awards. Most academy members do NOT view themselves as just voting based on record sales or fanbase. These are people in the industry and while I'm sure they are subconsciously swayed by what is popular, they are voting based on who they really think deserves to be awarded. I bet if you asked most of the people who voted for Taylor why they did it, it's not because her fans are passionate. They would say it's based on their own professional assessment of which album in the category was most deserving.

Taylor's comment was kind of a slight against both the academy (whatever, you guys don't matter, you're just doing what the fans tell you they like best) as well as kind of a neg of everyone else in the category (you lost because you have fewer fans or your fans are less passionate, basically people like me more).

I don't think she meant it to come out that way, but it did, and is why maybe using that moment to promo her album was a mistake. It seems like a very weird misread of the situation from someone who has, uh, been to the Grammys a few times.

Where's your diatribe on Jay Z insulting the entire Grammy institution while also accepting an award, and going on a tirade about his 30-Grammy-award-winning wife not getting enough recognition?

I think he had a point. There has been overt and most likely still is unconscious racism as a component of these shows. It may have been a diatribe, but because of the history of the awards, I give him a pass. Celine Dion (a white woman) won the award 27 years ago, so systemic racism wasn’t a component Taylor had to deal with. She doesn’t get a pass for promoting her next album during an acceptance speech.

Agree that there’s likely racism within all of these awards shows. But come on, whining about your wife’s 30 Grammys? GMAFB. That’s downright embarrassing.

I an pretty sure Taylor was on something last night. Her behavior was beyond weird! That's not normal giddiness

+1, she seemed wasted. I don't know why people are resisting this obvious explanation. She was imbibing.

She must have an absolutely brutal hangover today.

To me she appears as someone who is living in the moment, taking it all in, and enjoying it all. Living in the moment is something that takes most decades and age to figure out. That was Oprah’s send off when she ended her talk show “live in the moment”.

And I’m not a Swiftie.

There is living in the moment and then there is immersing yourself in the main character role. Those are two different things. Just because you are in the moment, doesn’t mean you are so into yourself you don’t take anyone else’s feelings or reactions into account with your behavior.

Yeah, usually when someone talks about living in the moment, I think of mindfulness. Taylor's behavior doesn't strike me as mindful or particularly in touch with her surroundings or what is going on. If anything, seems very checked out of the present moment and focused on her own stuff.

That's not even a criticism. I think awards shows are probably actually very boring and stressful for nominees. I wouldn't really expect someone to stay "in the moment." I think Taylor could have been more polite and self-aware, but I don't really blame her for not being very "present." I probably wouldn't be either.

From the little I’ve seen, she was up and singing the songs being performed. Living in the moment.

I think people are mostly talking about her behavior on stage, not during the performances. She did not seem "in the moment" during her speeches. She seemed pretty out of it.

+1 I had heard it before since I live in the world, but I hadn’t listened to it until last night. It’s a primo get lost breakup song. Same category as I Will Survive (not that good, obviously) and Katie Perry’s Part of Me.

It’s a response to the Bruno Mars song

Nicely put. At her core Taylor is childish and just something she will need to work on. It's hard to imagine she's only one year younger then Adele

Wow TIL I learned that Taylor is only a year younger than Adele and 3 years older than Miley Cyrus and yet both of those people seem like adults and Taylor... does not.

Stunted.

Miley seems like an adult to you? Interesting. I'm not dissing her, but I guess I see her as more ego-maniacal, self-absorbed, etc. but OK. ("I'm doing this so I can watch myself tomorrow and say I look good." And we're dissing Taylor Swift for being her own main character?) I'm a fan of her music though.

She strikes me as a lot more mature and self-possessed than Taylor. I was surprised to look up their ages and learn Taylor is older.

Those comments read to me as self-aware. She's making a joke about her vanity, in a room where probably a lot of people feel the same way -- they all put a ton of effort into their looks for these events, knowing they'll be photographed a lot and wanting to look good. It's honest and real to make that comment. The joke about underwear was similar to me -- just a joke acknowledging her history/proclivity for wearing very little clothing and a little levity. She did a video that was just her naked hanging on a wrecking ball -- no one familiar with Miley is scandalized by the news that she wasn't wearing skivvies under her outfits last night.

Miley just seems aware of what's going on, how she is perceived by others in the room and at home, and also aware of what other people might need or want to hear in the moment. I genuinely surprised me how much Taylor, who I've always thought of as being pretty savvy, really did not seem to get it.

I also think Miley is appreciating and recognizing this high point in life that often goes unrecognized because we’re busy criticizing ourselves. When we’re young and hot we still want to change this or that. She’s wise enough to know that hell yeah, soak it all in and love it - life is short. Good for her.
