Is Hillsdale the new Harvard?

Hillsdale. MAGA wet dreamland

Also, in 2022, Hillsdale professor David Azerrad, who teaches about civil rights at Hillsdale, ignited controversy with a speech on another campus. "I would argue that the real color of visible privilege in America today is Black.... There is an established consensus amongst our elites that our fellow Black citizens should not be held to the same standard of conduct as White people…. Standards are continuously lowered in the name of diversity; and when they can’t be lowered any farther, they are just abolished.... On ascribing any share of blame whatsoever to Black people for their collective lot in life, Black people are collectively absolved of any responsibility for their actions. It is never their fault.... If he were not Black, no one in America today would know who George Washington Carver is. History is constantly be rewritten to magnify beyond all reasonable proportions the contributions of Black Americans.... In some important regards, I choose my words carefully, the condition of Black America has really deteriorated since the 1960s when we got rid of formal, institutional racism.”

Charming.

Azerrad is absolutely correct.

Which Larry Arnn story. He’s still President. There was no Admin turnover. No course correction. Hillsdale stands behind him and his noxious viewpoint. And he’s still spewing ignorant cr*p. Didn’t he recently say that public school teachers come from the “dumbest parts of the dumbest colleges”. That wasn’t 2013.

Arnn is correct. Education majors have the second-to-lowest high school gpas and the teacher training schools are abysmal.

Do you believe that is true of your kids’ teachers? That they were the dumbest teachers at the dumbest schools? You plan to tell your kids’ teachers that you think they are morons? Might want to get a letter of Rec first.

The public school teachers aren’t that educated themselves, but they are supported by the government. Which is why they object to Hillsdale charter schools, which outperform them academically. The teacher unions don’t want to compete with better schools.

There is empirical evidence that education majors rank among the lowest in academic tests. You go into public education because you can’t do anything else.

And you go into private education, and earn a lot less, because you don’t need a teaching license.

Hillsdale charter schools are about 15% “dark faces” and mostly affluent students in areas that are 70-80% URM and dirt poor. They don’t support SPED (or for that matter, the teaching of evolution, or discussions of race or gender in literature…) is easy to outperform public schools where you can cherry pick your students. They aren’t better schools. They get to play by a much more favorable set of rules.
