That's the problem with referring to Republicans as "conservatives". They're not. Republicans hate public transit for the same reasons they tend to hate bikes, bike lanes, reusable bags, thrifted clothing, electric stoves and electric cars. |
I don't know what the difference is. I work with and am related to conservatives who ride their bikes to work, bring their lunch in a canvas tote, shop at Goodwill, while they have millions in the bank. |
Your familiarity with conservatives must be a product of MSNBC or the WaPo. I hate public transit personally because it is terrible and generally doesn't work very well within the context of US land use policy. |
I still can’t tell if this person is serious. On the one hand, it sounds really dumb. On the other hand, there are the actual housing, transportation, and land use policies in Montgomery County. |
The answer is that they are perfectly aligned with Montgomery County and both are extremely dumb. |
Conservative would mean Republican; while conservative would mean someone who strives to “conserve” energy, money, time, something meaningful. |

Also, the thing about cars is that they are the only transit that takes you where you want, when you want, not to mention with whom you want (or don't want), along the route you want, making all the stops you want, while carrying all your stuff, with a variety of creature comforts.
Of course there is a high cost associated with that flexibility, but it's tough to beat. |
Assuming that 1. Someone has built a road that goes there 2. Someone has made the necessary fuel available 3. Other people in cars aren't trying to do the same thing at the same time (Item #3 is generally referred to as "traffic.") Other vehicles that can do all of those things, except the "creature comforts" of sitting in a climate-controlled armchair with entertainment, at less expense: golf carts, motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, and really, your own two feet. Oh, and public transit could do all of those things too, if we had a high-frequency network of transit, except the "I don't want to associate with people" part. |

nothing.
My car is my relaxing space. |
What does gridlock do for your mellow car vibes? |
I would rather be in my nice Audi than a disgusting, inefficient, crowded metro bus or train.. Even if there was a metro stop outside my home and dropped me off right out front of my office, I would drive. |
| To paraphrase Jim Gaffigan, when I see a cyclist I just think: “you’re going to die” |
| More expensive options that you would have to be vetted for. For every kid of public transit. |
| Curious why someone reported the post that actual rule of law punctuality and hygiene |
| Nothing. Biking blows. Everyone who is ever going to be into bikes in Washington dc is already on the road. And as you may have noticed, the vast majority of bike lanes are barely used. |
