I'd consider biking to work if there were a dedicated bike or mixed-use trail going from home to my office. I will not bike on the roads during rush hour, even in a protected bike lane, and there's nothing that will convince me otherwise.
I have no problem taking the bus; I used to take Metrobus to work all the time when I lived in DC proper. But now I live further out in MoCo and there are no direct bus routes to where I need to be. If that changes, I'll reconsider. |

I'm for the bike lanes if for no other reason than they pinch down the number of travel lanes and slow down cars.
But above that, there's nothing like bumper to bumper traffic with bikes cruising on by right next to you to make you consider biking as an effective alternative! |
It would be cheaper to buy every bicyclist a Ferrari |
The sociopathy of this mentality is off the chart |

Bike lanes that are real bike lanes- maybe even with a guard rail so cars are forced to respect them.
The bus? I’d loooove to. My area doesn’t have convenient bus routes with frequent busses. In fact I looked into taking a bus from the bus stop at the end of my road (where I’ve never seen a real live bus) to this one cute downtown area about 2.5 miles away. The bus which comes once every 2 hours would reroute me around the city for 2 transfers and google thinks the bus journey would take about 3 hours. That’s insane. Please give me a way to take the bus to the town center in my town. |
| I would have to get both knees replaced. |
DP In what way? Biking is so much faster in my neighborhood. |
I bike specifically because I have a bad knee. It is pretty low impact if you have a light bike and know how to use your gears efficiently. |
+1 same here but bad hip instead of knee. it is really low-impact! |
Really? Hoping for bumper to bumper traffic and massive congestion |
| The bus stations would have to be free of homeless and criminals. |
Homeless people have the right to ride the bus. This reminds me of that thread where a poster refused to go to the public library because homeless people went to it. Homeless people have the right to go to the library too. |
A homeless person stabbed another homeless person to death in front of small children in the Petworth library. Yeah, homeless people using libraries as de facto shelters is awesome. |
If the buses fill up with homeless people (and they will once homeless people realize they’re free) no one else will use them. Not sure what that accomplishes. Is the purpose of public transportation to drive homeless people in circles all day? |
Personally, I have no interest in living, working, and playing in the same area. Sounds boring and stifling. |
