Queen Elizabeth II

The only royal I can hate on is Andrew and I’m sure even he is in pain right now.

He and his “wife” made Diane’s life miserable and Andrew Parker Bowles as well as all their children. They are two selfish people. They don’t deserve any respect.

“Diane” wasn’t any better. She was just younger and comparatively attractive.
Like it or not, Charles and Camilla are married. You don’t get to pretend they aren’t because you don’t like them.

And, she was 96!!! It’s not a tragedy.

Have you not heard “the special relationship” mentioned every time our leaders get tougher?
UK is in our top 5 allies.
We share so much culture.
Where have you been?

Yes, and the leaders of our county should send their condolences. What I don’t get is individual Americans being obsessed with royalty and devastated that the queen has died (including posting on FB how sad they are and changing their profile pics!).

Yup. This obsession/reaction is so weird to me.

Our Founding Fathers wouldn't be pleased!

Did I say I respect Charles?
I said the only one I hate is Andrew.

She was a world figure for over 70 years. It's hard to imagine England without her.

Why do you care? Honestly, why? What I don't get is individual Americans being obsessed with what other Americans follow. I hate football. Yet some Americans are obsessed. I don't like Harry Styles - yet he has a massive following. Some people adore the monarchy and find it fascinating. Why on earth do you care what people do with their FB profiles? I mean if people can be sad when Betty White dies, they can mourn The Queen

So. It doesn’t erase that they are horrid.

They called the Queen Granny so I don't see why it would be different with their father. They will have to bow/curtsey they first time they see him each day. So will his siblings.

Gan-Gan not Granny

So just to clear this one up, the Queen's grandchildren, William, Harry, Beatrice, etc called her "Granny"
and her great grandchildren, George, Charlotte, Louis etc called her "Gan Gan"

Sophie called her mama. I’m guessing it varies per adult and child. We’ve heard William and Harry but others may differ.

Because America was founded in a fight for independence from British royalty. How can you not see a difference between obsession with royalty and obsession with football or Harry Styles? Not to mention colonialism was evil.

One of the PP's is of Indian origin, and Anglo-Indian history has been contentious, to put it mildly. A different history.

The US and the UK share many ties, and the two countries have had good or better relations for a couple of centuries now. Along with Canada, they're the closest to the US, culturally. I don't understand why some people are surprised that some Americans would have an interest in the monarchy.

The British Monarchy is only ceremonial now and a shadow of what it used to be. It's not that serious. It is ok to appreciate the history and duty of this woman.

Complications from COVID are bad. She probably would've lived another 5 to 10 years if she hadn't caught it multiple times.

I think she went to bed the night before and never woke up.

Massive eye roll on this. The Queen had not had any political or legislative duties for nearly the entirety of her reign. She was a ceremonial figure-head for 70 years. She did not make or enact any of the policies pertaining to British colonialism to which you are referring, all of which ended near the beginning of her reign. Queen Elizabeth II was not Henry VIII.

It must be exhausting being on a crusade all the time without understanding nuance.

And the UK has been one of our closest allies for over a century now. No one has bad feelings about the UK generally or the monarchy specifically based on what happened two and a half centuries ago.
