Republicans are kind of like cave men saying "Gosh darn it, why should we get out of the Stone Age? There's plenty of stone still around! You people with your new-fangled "iron" garbage are charlatans, that stuff will never go anywhere or do anyone any good!" |
You sound clueless and ridiculous saying things like this. Learn the difference between weather (short term) versus climate (long term trend). Learn how warming disrupts normal weather patterns which can also lead to bubbles of frigid arctic air being displaced. Also, the International Space Station is powered by batteries and solar power, despite being in a frigid environment far colder than North Dakota. |
Plus they found that virtually unlimited amounts of lithium can cost-effectively be harvested from seawater. But who's to say batteries will even need lithium, given they keep discovering new battery technologies with higher energy density, better safety, and faster charging capacity, for example ceramic solid-state batteries. |
We say it because conservative media hates electric vehicles. And, we have met lots of Republicans in real life. If you like EVs then you're the anomaly, not the norm. |
|
Why were Republicans incensed about LEDs? Why does Donald Trump get applause for protecting the flush volume of America's toilets?
They have made energy conservation and air pollution a cause. And the reason why it's a cause is the oil, coal, and natural gas industries. They call the shots. |
Conservatives NOR conservative media hates electric vehicles. We do, however, hate being forced to purchase an EV. We don't like the fact that in order to sell EV's to the American public, the government has to provide a monetary incentive. And, we don't like the fact that the government ignores the downside to having an EV (lengthy charge times adding hours to long trips, cost of vehicles, poor resale value of EV's..... among just some of the downsides). If EV's are so damned good, you shouldn't have to bribe people to get one. |
Not practical in cold and hot weather environments. And if doing a long road trip in winter with reduced driving distance capacity exactly how many charging stations have to be installed? If it doesn't work driving from NJ to NOVA how would it work in less dense areas or longer range driving? And the range estimates have variables like age of battery and use. It is a hassle so Id do hybrid before EV and I'm a D whose BIL/SIL can't use a new expensive EV for road trips https://www.cars.com/articles/your-guide-to-ev-batteries-premature-death-range-loss-and-preservation-446126/ |
| We really like EVs. Just say we hate them because it is a good way to get inside the heads of Democrats. One of many buttons we like to push. |
Well fine M**F**! Just buy them without $7500 subsidy checks from the tax payer. If they're that great, you shouldn't need a complete stranger's money to justify them. |
People will eventually. Oil has a limited shelf life as far as human history goes going forward. |
What kind of nut would go around intentionally irritating others for no good reason, and debasing yourself in the process? I mean, it seems to be epidemic among right wingers - like spending hundreds of dollars illegally modifying your diesel pickup truck so that it spews sooty, oily black smoke everywhere at the push of a button, wasting fuel and damaging your engine in the process. It makes no sense to any sane, rational person. But then again it just highlights that right wingers aren't sane, rational people. |
You're kidding about NJ/NOVA, right? I have friends and colleagues who routinely drive their EVs back and forth between DC/NOVA and NYC as well as North Carolina and other places farther away. But even so, long term it's a non-issue as there are better and better battery and EV technologies being advanced every single year. Can't say the same for gas cars - they are basically the same mechanically and functionally as they have been since electronic ignition and controls were introduced to them decades ago. |
I don’t really hear anyone saying EVs will *never* be good. It’s just that right now, im most of the country other than the densely populated Eastcoast or relatively large cities of a few hundred thousand people throughout the rest of the Nation… they aren’t practical. It’s more like, trying to compare the abacus to the first computers. Sure the computer was more advanced, and it was a needed technological advancement and over time computers are ubiquitous and found it a ton of things… but back in the time of the first computer, it would have been more practical to just use a lower tech abacus. Most people didn’t have enough space for a massive room-sized computer, it had it’s own learning curve as to how to input stuff, it would have been super expensive, etc. We will get to a point where EVs are the norm, and convenient and practical enough for use anywhere in the country? Probably. But stop trying to force them on us before they’re as good as gas vehicles. |
Gasoline cars are also less efficient with climate extremes. You notice it less because your fuel tank doesn't give you an estimated range that changes, it just goes to empty faster. It's really not hard charging an electric car. With the new charging speeds it's also pretty damn quick. Run into the sheetz and use the restroom, get a sandwich, your car's charged when you get back. But the real reason Republicans hate electric cars is the same reason they hated people telling them to wear masks to protect other people, or not to bring guns to school: they're like entitled five year olds who just want to have their way about everything |
No I was not kidding. Look at distances on google maps- NYC Columbus Circle to the Outer Banks had 3 routes suggested avg about 535 miles. Tesla supercharger is 170 miles in 30 minutes. Charging ports, adaptors etc should be better for the I95 corridor by 2025- now still a hassle. https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/hybrids-evs/tesla-superchargers-open-to-other-evs-what-to-know-a9262067544/ |
