Why do staunch republicans hate electric vehicles?

AS SHE DRIVES HER electric vehicle to her mother’s house, Monique’s battery gauge indicates that it’s time to reenergize. She stops at a charging station, taps her credit card at the pump, inserts a nozzle into the car, and in 5 minutes exchanges 400 liters of spent nanofluid for fresher stuff. As she waits, a tanker pulls up to refill the station itself by exchanging tens of thousands of liters of charged for spent fuel. Monique closes her EV’s fueling port and heads onto the highway with enough stored energy to drive 640 kilometers (400 miles).

The battery in her EV is a variation on the flow battery, a design in which spent electrolyte is replaced rather than recharged. Flow batteries are safe, stable, long-lasting, and easily refilled, qualities that suit them well for balancing the grid, providing uninterrupted power, and backing up sources of electricity.

This battery, though, uses a completely new kind of fluid, called a nanoelectrofuel. Compared to a traditional flow battery of comparable size, it can store 15 to 25 as much energy, allowing for a battery system small enough for use in an electric vehicle and energy-dense enough to provide the range and the speedy refill of a gasoline-powered vehicle. It’s the hoped-for civilian spin-off of a project that the Strategic Technology Office of the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is pursuing as part of a drive to ease the military’s deployment of all-electric supply vehicles by 2030 and of EV tactical vehicles by 2050.

Interesting stuff. Maybe the lithium battery is not the future of EV?

Because EVs do not work well in cold weather environments. So if you want everyone to drive EVs you must be for global warming and not against it.

Come on people you can have it both ways.

They suck and need government tax money to make economically viable. Mentally ill progressive welfare cars.

Half the country votes Democrat & they aren’t buying many electric cars either.

This. I live in very liberal DC suburban and only two electric vehicles in the entire neighborhood. I guess I should start the tread why do staunch democrats hate electric vehicles.

OP. Easy answer. MAGA Republicans are under Russian influence. Russia needs oil dependency to survive, so will use whatever influence it has to keep the West dependent upon oil.

Russia sells to China

US has enough oil.

You’re not a 15 booster dum dum I hope.

Germany announced yesterday it has revoked 100% of government subsidies for Electric Vehicles effective immediately.

I don’t think most hate the cars themselves.

I think they hate the massive push to get people to go electric. When they are still so much less convenient than what we’re used to.

A lot of places don’t even have but a few public charging stations in their city, not all of them use the same kind of plug. Can take hours to charge. Expensive. Then you have to worry about if it’s too hot or too cold out and factor that into your battery’s performance and how long it would take to charge.

Gas cars? Just spend a few minutes filling up at one of the many, many gas stations and you’re pretty much good to go.

Before these things are worked out, it just seems like one more thing being shoved down their throat.

Not to mention to a lot of people, the environmental concern seems a bit.. fake.. if you do research about the batteries once they go bad.

Then the other day I saw about how much more dangerous crashes are because these cars are SO MUCH heavier than other cars their size. Like more than 50% heavier. I thought that was an interesting fact.

That's weather not climate. Typical display of ignorance.

They suck. Batteries are a poor store of energy and have physical limits that will never reach the energy output of fossil fuel. There will not be an electric 747. Thousand pound batteries that lose half power in cold weather. Turn on the heat at zero degrees and totally screwed. Plus need fossil fuels to generate power to charge them (takes forever). Loss of power delivering over power lines as well.

They just can’t compete without massive subsidies. Head to head with no inflationary government borrowing and transferring to loser electric car production / financing they literally suck.

You seem to ignore the obvious: that the energy density of batteries has been rapidly increasing over the last two decades, and there is no sign that the trend is leveling off.

Why would I hate electric vehicles? I swear some of you have never met a republican in real life.
