Hasn't the vaccine brought the death rate down to numbers similar (or even lower) than seasonal flu? We will never get rid of this disease. We have to be able to live with it. We live with 50,000 flu deaths a year. Why not COVID? |
We're at 1,129 covid deaths/week as of this week: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/covidview/index.html so that's about 59k deaths/year -- not too dissimilar from the flu. We never required everyone to take measures to stop the flu. Heck, we don't even require the flu vaccine. |
0 children have died in MoCo when we didn't have the vaccine availble. Now we're 90%+ vaccination rate, and still no children have died. More children have died in MoCo in the last year and a half from falling out of windows than Covid. |
We are fortunate to have relatively good and quick access to medical care. I don’t think it’s just random luck that no kids have died in MoCo. There are some systemic reasons that unfortunately many other countries don’t have. |
So, what happens when a child does die? Its only a matter of time. 700 kids have died in the US and many more world wide. You think the county has an invisible bubble that protects our kids? No, so we need to. No under 12's are vaccinated and when it happens no under 5's will be vaccinated. Why do you need a child to die in the county to take covid seriously? Hopefully it will be one of your kids dying and not the rest of ours. |
You may have access to good access access to quality care but may of us do not. It is just luck. There was a child who just died at school because of lack of medial care. You live in a wonderful privileged bubble. The health care I get sucks and I have lots of untreated health issues and been to multiple doctors. The primary care doctors don't even know of the medications I'm on. |
Better reason to continue masking. How many have died of the flu this week? The flu is not comparable to covid this week: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/index.htm And, compare total COVID deaths to total flu deaths. |
We aren't getting rid of it as people are irresponsible and our government is hoarding vaccines vs. sharing them. |
Where is that? I haven't seen anything. They are considering reinstating it. They have not and probably will not. |
|
The flu went way down last year:
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/flu-has-disappeared-worldwide-during-the-covid-pandemic1/ |
How is the county not taking covid seriously? We have the highest vaccination rate of any large county in the US. |
I really wonder if you actually believe that. Presumably you know all the experts say Covid isn’t going to be eradicated. |

MoCoShow is reporting on their social media that the Indoor Mask Mandate will be back in effect starting at 12:01 am on Wednesday November 3.
Based on comments it doesn’t seem like that is a joke either. I’m not anti-mask. I still wore my inside these past few days. It would have made no difference to me if they didn’t lift the mandate this past Thursday. Why are they reinstating the mask policy so quickly? Not even 48 hours after issuing it do they reinstate it. They don’t even reinstate it for right away but on Wednesday November 3. Why can’t they just reinstate it for today (10/31) since they broke the news on 10/30? I find it hard to believe cases went up that quickly in the 48 hours since the indoor mask mandate ended that would necessitate reinstating the mandate but they are still waiting until 11/3 for it to go in effect. |

It’s a perfectly sane policy and in line with CDC guidance. Wear masks when levels are higher than a certain number. Give folks a few days to plan and business to prepare. This is going to be forever. Makes perfect sense to me. Nothing is restricted. No one is panicking. Wear masks when the community transmission levels are above the number. Optional when below.
Easy. Sensible |
I don't know about MoCo but DC cases ticked up on Thursday and Friday. |
