Masking off-ramp coming soon?

We're okay with masks continuing indefinitely. Kids are all wearing them fine. Their parents may be berserk with anxiety but the kids are fine and going along to get along.

Herd immunity? Is it March 2020?

COVID will be here forever. Your kids can mask indefinitely. Mine are done. Masking kids indefinitely is about as anti-science, nonsense as there comes, meant to cure the irrational anxiety of certain parents who have no concept of comparative risk.

Can't wait until Youngkin pulls mask mandates on inauguration day!

It’s a good day that VA is no longer worried about bathrooms and fluidity of gender and we will allegedly go back to sticking to what’s A is A and what’s B is B

Oh, I completely feel the opposite.

I am wondering where you are that you are experiencing "volatility in outbreaks within schools"? I haven't heard of this happening in any our the local schools in my area. We are a two teacher household and between our two elementary schools we've had ~10-12 student cases total and no spread within the buildings.

We are not okay with masking indefinitely. So how about in January, you continue to mask, and we are allowed to not mask.

Well, seems like someone is triggered!

Who is triggered? 07:39PP? 22:15PP? 20:08PP? You?

How about no thanks to this because you will be putting my kids at risk.

(I hope you don't teach science)

The fact that kids aren't complaining about masks doesn't mean the masks don't impact their learning. I am a middle school teacher. It is sometimes difficult to hear more soft-spoken students (who often are the ones I need to check on), and it is difficult for some of them to read social cues. I don't advocate immediate change in the masking rules, but if the community stays in the low transmission range for several weeks, I believe masks should be optional.

How will I be putting your kids at risk? Aren't they vaccinated? If they are immuno-compromised, then they are free to continue to wear high quality masks for as many months or years as preferred. (I teach math, so I understand risk analysis.)

I have the same question. I’m a few months all of my students will have had ample time to get vaccinated and I’ll be in the same boat.

My third graders do an excellent job wearing masks, but they are definitely slower to react to redirection. Of course I use non-verbal cues too, but it is definitely tougher while wearing a mask. As a PP mentioned, soft spoken students are very difficult to hear and often don’t adjust their volume. The Morning Meeting greeting doesn’t go as well because some students can’t be heard and we get lost or sidetracked. Reading aloud to students is definitely more difficult. Those are just some examples.

Mask offramp coming mid-January with Governor Youngkin! The precedent has been set by Northam - he mandated all schools statewide require masks this fall and threatened to sue them if the don't. Every district ended up complying since the laws are so pro-state control here. He knows if a "mask optional" policy doesn't get mandated statewide, school districts in NoVa will require them until 2023 or later.

Youngkin campaigned on ending mask mandates, and he has a mandate. Anyone who wants to have their kids mask to school can continue to have them mask. My kids masks' will be burned in the fire pit in celebration the day it's announced.

The kids are going to be so happy!

My kids are complaining about masks. My 5 year old, who hates shots, asked to get the shots so she wouldn’t have to wear a mask anymore.

My students and myself are sick of them. We have a pact to be lax so we can breathe.

Can’t wait to hear young kin announce the removal of draconian laws.

50.7% is hardly a mandate but okay.
