The fact that kids aren't complaining about masks doesn't mean the masks don't impact their learning. I am a middle school teacher. It is sometimes difficult to hear more soft-spoken students (who often are the ones I need to check on), and it is difficult for some of them to read social cues. I don't advocate immediate change in the masking rules, but if the community stays in the low transmission range for several weeks, I believe masks should be optional.
+1 My third graders do an excellent job wearing masks, but they are definitely slower to react to redirection. Of course I use non-verbal cues too, but it is definitely tougher while wearing a mask. As a PP mentioned, soft spoken students are very difficult to hear and often don’t adjust their volume. The Morning Meeting greeting doesn’t go as well because some students can’t be heard and we get lost or sidetracked. Reading aloud to students is definitely more difficult. Those are just some examples.
