Public Trump Impeachment Hearing Mega Thread

The other side offered was that the President is concerned about corruption in Ukraine.

The record does not support this.

When it reaches the Senate, the article of impeachment relating to obstruction of Congress should be summarily dismissed with a vote. It is completely idiotic given that Congress made no effort to enforce the subpoenas through the courts. The one that did get to the courts on Trump's financial information is being heard by the Supreme Court.

No, it's absurd that Trump claimed a blanket privilege on EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. With Trump accused of trying to cheat in the next election there's no time to go through the courts and Trump knows this. That's why this is clearly obstruction and the vote should be 100-0 to convict.

Schumer is a joke.

From Politico:

Republicans scoff at Chuck Schumer's impeachment trial proposal

Even Susan Collins wasn't pleased by the Senate minority leader’s move.

The courts are there to adjudicate differences between the executive and legislative branch. It takes time to go through the judicial process - such is life.

Collins and Romney were the last bastion of hope for Democrats based on posts on this forum!

Imagine a world, just for a minute, if Obama had done all of this. It wouldn't have been okay if he had done it. So...

Oh please this is Schumer and the Dems' best play given the circumstances. What is a better one?

Honest answer: the Republicans would have been yelling bloody murder and the Democrats would have been saying that it should be resolved by the courts.

The best play would have been to seek a motion of censure because impeachment is not going to go anywhere.

The Senate is now in control and the Republicans control the Senate. C'est la vie

Censure? When our president plays personal games with our national security? He should be impeached. And he will be. Not "censured".

He's going to be impeached. The Senate cannot stop it, the Republicans cannot stop it. Nor are they considering the dignity of the Senate, as they should be.

He will be impeached and then he will be acquitted in the Senate!

Democrats will fume about it and in November the voters will decide if Trump should be reelected.
