They stopped thinking about what was best for FCPS when they bought KAA without truly understanding what they were purchasing.
FCPS has a "possibilities" fairy problem and has had one for decades. Reid, the SB, ... all looking to burnish their resumes for the next job by dreaming up whatever strikes their fancy. JI, FLES, IB, ... are far more exciting than making the buses run on time or maintaining hundreds of school buildings. If the operations people had been able to keep the possibilities fairies away from KAA before they'd gutted it, FCPS would be getting exactly what this part of the County has needed ever since they built Carson - a community HS for about 2000 students.

And they'd have gotten the community HS for a song. People have been treating the cost of KAA as if land were free and freely available now and forever. The reality is all available large plots of land in Western Fairfax/Eastern Loudoun are getting snapped up as soon as they become available for $3M+ an acre - GW just sold their property in Loudoun for $4M per. Use $3M, the land itself would have cost $120M, the building was only $30M.

That’s literally what Skyview is.

I think PP is trying to say that the people enamored with the magnet school idea are keeping some infrastructure in the building that limits its usefulness as a community high school. If you've ever been in there, the setup is much more like a college campus building than a typical high school.

Yes, this is why I like it. Anyone know current enrollment numbers for 9th grade? I just want to make sure my kid can do all the advanced Math APs

Which math will your 9th grader be taking? Likely the math options will be strong considering the many kids matriculating from Carson.

He should go into Algebra II Honors. I'm assuming they will have that- slightly concerned whether they will have multivariable calc in 12th with a possible small class - but I imagine a lot of the kids opting in are doing so for the math/technical pathways and will also want it. I just would love to get confirmation of it because I do think this class will be much smaller than our base school (Chantilly) and I think there was only one class of it there with our last kid.

A good number of the kids that opted in from Carson will be in Algebra II, I know most of my sons friends who opted in will be Algebra II. I would imagine that most of them will be in multivariate as Seniors. Some might decide to go the AP Stats route or some might go Calc AB and then BC. But I would be very surprised if they dont have enough kids from Multivariate Senior year.

Well know as the name insinuates that the school will be a magnet school because the board wiping decide on boundaries and resort to a re-voting on programming.

Kyle McDaniel expects a first round of maps shortly after Spring Break.

They take freaking so long for this.

Why should they rush? The sooner they come out with maps the sooner some who opted in will realize they'll be outside the boundary and try to back out of their commitment to attend Skyview.

The whole process is a mess.

Mr. Jagel’s and his staff emphasized the traditional courses at the February meeting. They discussed the non-pathway classes. The staff and Admin are focused for all the students.

Chantilly, Edison, and the academies offer specialized classes and a full list of classes. Skyview will be the same.

Most, if not all, high schools offer specialized classes whether they be academies or otherwise.

The concern people reasonably have is that the traditional options at Skyview will be weaker than at other schools because of the low enrollment and obvious focus on the pathways.

Give examples of how it will be weaker for the students, please. Traditional options are required in all schools. The population will likely require advanced courses--that will drive the courses offered.

That's the thing. We won't know until later what Skyview can't offer. It's going to be a crap shoot for a few years because Reid and the School Board didn't have the brains to defer opening Skyview until it was truly ready.

Enrollment will normalize after the boundaries are set. People are fixated on next years class when the optin option was an anomaly.

The only people who have to worry about next years class offerings are the kids who opted in knowing it would be a weird year.

Agree things will normalize eventually, if Reid and her minions don't screw things up more than they have already.

I just don't understand why Crossfield families want to stay at Oakton when traffic and congestion is just getting worse and worse. Even the county is doing a congestion study for the area around Oakton high school because of the new development at the AT&T site and existing congestion. I wouldn't want my kids driving to and from school.
