Because I read a lot of the Amber Heard thread, until near the end, and it was pretty much like this one — a few people sticking up for Heard drowned out by other people moving mountains to make Depp sound reasonable. Maybe not the greatest guy, but not a harasser! Misunderstood! Maybe not great, but she’s infinitely worse! So now there are people performing the same function in THIS thread for Baldoni but saying they actually supported Heard back then … ORLY? You’re awfully vocal here but were awfully quiet in that Heard pile on. Color me sceptical. |
Well I was always supportive of Heard in that thread so I don't know what to tell you. |
It’s a little ridiculous to compare Amber and Blake lively. Amber was very young and not very famous and she got together with one of the most famous practically iconic legends of Hollywood. The power imbalance was stark. JD is a known drug and alcohol user and it’s not difficult for me to believe there was abuse there. As much as I absolutely adored Johnny Depp before all this, it was not a leap, and I think that Amber is an imperfect victim as they say, but absolutely do believe her.
There were not the same power imbalance here and I think Blake also harassed and bullied Justin to a degree. There might have been some harassing and inappropriate behavior to Blake, I don’t know, but I do not believe for a minute Justin hired the PR campaign as retaliation and that is what the crux of the case is about. It seems like if there were any harassing behaviors identified in January 2024, they were acknowledged, and they moved on from that. I very much doubt justin feared that Blake would sue for sexual harassment. I believe he hired the PR firm not to retaliate but because the premier and the promotion of the film looked very bad for him. There were rumors that he had fat shamed Blake (those allegations are the ones to me that seem to have been totally taken out of context and his concern for her weight always seemed to be about his back and nothing to do with her body), everyone unfollowed him, and he was shunned from the premier. Anyone in their right mind would’ve hired a PR firm. |
+1 this is fundamentally about power dynamics and Blake and Ryan should have realized that people would accurately perceive her as someone with immense privilege and power. Few women have a billionaire husband and a billionaire best friend, and Justin Baldoni, unlike Johnny Depp, was a nobody when she made the movie with him. She was the A lister, not him. |
Make that five. |
+1 it reads like she felt she was too good for this no-name director and no-name studio, but then why did she sign onto this instead of a higher profile project? |
My sense is that she does not get a ton of feature film offers, and she was trying to stay in that realm. Many feature actors have gone over to streaming shows on Netflix and Amazon. It seems like projects are limited right now in general outside the "superhero" films which are guaranteed moneymakers. Maybe she felt this was worth it to try to get a movie franchise from Hoover's novels. |
. This seemed like sort of the perfect fit for her, because was high profile, but because of the Coleen Hoover book connection this was never going to be taken seriously by an A lister. A listers can get more than $3 million for a mainstream film and this one wasn’t going to get anyone any awards. Blake is a decent but not A List actress but very famous. |
To even things out, I didn’t even read the Amber Heard thread, but have posted that I don’t think Blake has a case. Johnny Depp has been known to be violent since the 90s when he was trashing hotel rooms. |
I also think there’s a big difference between intimate partner violence and sexual harassment on a set, in addition to the power imbalance already noted. |
The amber/Johnny case should've taught People to work for al the evidence to come out. I went back and forth for a bit but I believe Johnny was incredibly abusive and controlling |
It’s interesting that all Blake’s claims occur in public. It doesn’t sound like she was put in a situation where she was alone with a man and anything weird happened.
One thing that is tripping me up is that given Justin‘s whole brand is supporting feminism, even if it is fake, he knows what he’s doing and how to come off in public and I just am unclear why he would risk it all on his highest profile project yet by lazily calling the lead actress hot or sexy on a packed set? Not because he’s not a jerk, but I think we all know men who are who we suspect are jerks in their private lives and probably don’t treat women great but are buttoned up at work because it’s 2025 and everybody knows the rules at this point. It just seems weird and I don’t even think she is necessarily lying, but I do wonder if she did misunderstand that interaction. I guess if someone else on set comes forward and says it was inappropriate, okay I’ll admit he’s a creep who can’t help himself. It seems like all their personal texts were professional, unless she is holding those back. |

Blake looked like she was enjoying being around Justin in these outtakes. |
They look like they have a cordial relationship. She sounds exhausting. He was telling her that she and Ryan were cute and he was she was like we’re more than cute. What does that even mean? How do you even converse with someone like that? Anyway, that should clear it up for anyone. The whole you smell good, was completely taken out of context. She’s literally apologizing “you can probably smell my spray tan” and he goes “you smell good!” In a completely innocent way. not gross at all. I thought they both acted well in the scene, but he was also clearly all business snapping from his character to the his role as director and giving the assistant director and the team direction pretty seamlessly. He didn’t at all seem at all lost in the scene other than to be a decent actor in it and pretend he is falling in love with her character. Fascinating she didn’t know that audio captured this. Wow, I wasn’t a bike lively fan before but now I’m very embarrassed for her. I just don’t see how she gets out of this. I mean, this is just an out right lie that he inappropriately nuzzled her neck and leerily told her she smelled good. I was willing to give her some of the benefit of doubt that maybe she had mis characterize some things, but this is just a bold lie. |
