Fun season, loving the interest in VA public lax. While they say comparison is the thief of joy, to rebut talk of a “slide” I found this useful: https://www.laxnumbers.com/ratings.php?y=2025&v=3545

I kinda like the fact that they use a published methodology to rate teams by league, state and nationally, with results going back at least to pre-covid and even earlier for some. They seem to really reward strength of schedule in their ratings and don’t reward blowouts over 10 goals. Anyway, from this it doesn’t seem there’s been any “slide” - rather it looks like some privates put a priority on lax and recruited accordingly, and some didn’t. Nothing wrong with that but it doesn’t mean VA public quality has dropped.

I do think there’s value in playing some of the mid-tier VA privates like Woodbury, SSSA or Norfolk (or Collegiate this year) - you get to see where you are if you treat it like an assessment since it doesn’t matter towards playoff seedings. Beyond that it’s just a JV or recruiting game for schools like STAB or PVI or Blue Ridge. Mad respect for Atlee’s grueling schedule, for sure.

Anyway, great season, excellent playoffs. Kids played their hearts out. Was kinda pulling for a southern champion to grow the game, but wasn’t in the cards this year. Hope everyone has a great summer.

Well written and so true. Some points to add...

-So true about Privates just doing a better job recruiting; Public schools get what they get. Half if not more of STAB and Blue Ridge starters aren't from Virginia. Blue Ridge even dips a lot into that Country above us who knows a little something about Lacrosse.

-Hate to say it but Laxnumbers is so much worse than Laxpower. The algorithm is so junked up; Laxpower was way more accurate. They have Woodberry, Catholic, Norfolk, and Collegiate all above about 5 publics schools (If not more) that would take their lunch money and khakis.

That’s some old school referencing right there! Was bummed when LaxPower shut down. That said, I’ll take a transparent if clunky algorithm over any of the ranting angry over-the-hill (or ducking study hall) commentariat on here

great job Indy. Defitniely best team in VHSL this spring. Will be great to see them in 6 next year. I think they best West Po this year and best in state, their record shows it.

Anyone have a summary of the 6A final?

For all the talk through the year, some of you are just too jaded to see past your own bias.

Congrats to the poster that said watch out for West Po. He was right and by my estimation the best "team" in 6a this year. They didn't just rely on one or two players to get the job done.

Same for Indy and team play, for all the talk a few pages back about what they have "not" done. They did it this year. Seem to be the consensus best in VHSL regardless of class for 2025

not really.

They are good, and I hate to agree with some of the other earlier spring posts, but every other school has only one or two offensive players that are remotely competent.

The state of VHSL lax this year is really bad on the offensive side. Not sure if COVID hurt the sport or what but there is a real talent deficit.

The defenses are ok, but defense is easy. Really easy when they only have to have one slide and can double/triple team the other teams only weapons.

It’s been bad for a while- don’t kid yourself. Most of the quality kids go private and the remaining few are scattered.

It’s a bunch of JV kids being propped up by lower level varsity players.

What are we even doing here. Take it elsewhere. The boys on the field are the boys on the field and if you are so disappointed in the state of the game, get involved at a local level in youth lacrosse. Help grow the game. Move on or help out.
Just a couple of clownshows that have a higher opinion of themselves than warranted by a longshot. Literally nobody that's any good would go about ripping others like this (anonymously at that) on a freaking chat board. Probably made All-District their senior year 8 years ago and their memory was they were awesome.

There is nothing false about what I have stated on here. Just because your kid is being propped up- doesn’t mean it’s false. NVA lacrosse at the public schools is well below that of several other states. And throw in the fact that they only have to compete against other crappy public schools in VA- well, there you have your final ingredient for it all.

Don’t blame me man- I didn’t help create this mess. I was smart enough to get my kids out of that place and put them in a much better lacrosse/sports environment.

And here you are spending your Father’s Day spewing bile over a system you have by your own account escaped, apparently just for funsies.

Try Paxil. Might do wonders.

Robo 2024 was one of the best more recent VA public school teams.

Meh. They had a weak schedule.

WP lead 4-1 after 1 and 5-2 at half. Lead got up to 6-2 and then 7-3 late in the 3rd when Cosby put together a few in a row.

Tied at 8 with just over a minute left, WP held on to the ball for the last 60+ seconds and took a shot that went out of bounds with 9 seconds left. Cosby took a timeout on the dead ball and #32 from WP initiated and threw a skip to #20 who stuck one with 1.8 seconds left. Several WP players threw their sticks in the air and took off their helmets resulting in a dead ball penalty. No face off with 1.8 and a 2-man advantage for Cosby, they gave it to a long pole at the midline and he took a shot looking for a deflection or quick catch and shoot but it went wide right and the game was over. Instant classic.

Congratulations to WP and Cosby on great seasons. WP wins it's first VA State Championship in any sport since 1990.
