If you like to make smoothies, what do you put in them, and why?
I like making smoothies with frozen fruit, but I'm thinking I might like to add other things and drink them as my breakfast. If you make smoothies that are more filling than just fruit and water (all that I've tried), what do you put in, and why? I want both healthy and yummy. Protein powder (not sure how I feel about that, seems so artificial)? Yogurt? Kefir? Nut butter? Silken Tofu? Hardboiled egg (I was surprised to read this?) Green things? Avocado? Greens (which ones taste best and have the most nutrients? Spinach? Kale? Collards? Chard?) Spirulina? (where do you buy it?) Other things I've seen in recipes, but I don't know why they're there. Do they make it healthier or taste better or both? Coconut water? Almond or soy milk? Hemp? Chia? Oatmeal? Wheat germ? |

| has anyone found any good greens to put in a smoothie? every time I have tried it it really takes away from the taste |
| I use pea protein powder because I am lactose intolerant and can't use whey~based ones. It does taste weird, but adding banana, berries, almond milk and maybe but butter helps. It does keep me full fir months. |
| Um, meant until lunch! |
I've added green juice when I'm out of OJ. Just bought frozen kale to try soon. |
|
here's what I put in mine:
half frozen banana (for taste, and frozen banana gives it a great texture) 1 cup frozen fruit (sometimes all blueberries, sometimes half blueberries half whatever else. I really like blueberries) big handful of spinach and/or kale, frozen or fresh (I don't notice the taste, do this for nutrients) enough 100% fruit juice to make it the right texture depending on my mood, hunger level, I may add plain greek yogurt or vanilla plant-based protein powder. I find it doesn't add to the taste, but doesn't really take away either. |
| I put in a ton of greens. Mainly Kale, but sometimes spinach and beet greens. |

Strawberries
Blueberries Blackberries Banana Plain Greek yogurt OJ Green Superfood berry drink powder (from Whole Foods) I use frozen berries. Food ingredients because I like them, powder b/c it adds extra nutrients, Omega 3's and probiotics. |

My dd loves apple cinnamon
Handful of spinach 1cup almond milk Blend 1 chopped honey crisp apple 1 frozen banana Cinnamon Blend It looks as green as the Grinch, but tastes like an apple cinnamon smoothie. My 8 yo loves them! |

I make this 6 days a week for my breakfast:
2 oz Pom Juice 8 oz Coconut water ~2cups spinach 1/4 cup chia seeds 1/2 cup frozen blueberries 5-6 frozen strawberries it makes about 36 oz which is enough for 2 people, but I usually drink it all myself- very filling but still light. I'm pregnant now, but I drink this when I'm not, too. |
|
I'm drinking mine right now. Here's what's in it:
-1/2 cup canned pumpkin -1/3 cup cooked sweet potato -handful of spinach -1 cup So Delicious unsweetened coconut milk -1 scoop protein powder -pumpkin pie spice to taste I'm not crazy about the whey protein powder either but I choose the least adulterated one I can find (no added flavorings/sweeteners) - this is what I use: http://www.amazon.com/Foods-Whey-Protein-Isolate-Pounds/dp/B0013OWAB4 I don't taste the spinach at all in this one. It's pretty good and I actually hate pumpkin. I like the lower-sugar aspect of this one compared to typical fruit smoothies. |

A variety of mixture that usually consist of several of these: spinach (frozen), kale, bell peppers, tomatoes, carrots with a bit of orange or apple (or its juice) + water. And flaxseed. It's diluted enough, that you can't taste the kale's strong taste. Best drank cold.

| Flax seed, maybe? |
Funny. For months. |
