She could have stayed to attend in person and chose not to.

Not staying was smart. The Queen and Charles and William could have talked Harry into changing his mind and staying in the UK and staying as a senior royal. In that case, Meghan would have divorced Harry. Because of the potential to turn into a divorce and custody issue, MM needed to be out of the UK with Archie and ready to bolt with the baby for the US borders and US court jurisdiction as fast as possible. No court in the UK is going to an American to have primary custody over a member of the British royal family, even if he is a baby.

Guess it depends on how committed they are. To each other, to leaving.

Apparently not that committed.

Even if Meghan was 100% sure that Harry was going to tell his family to take a hike, it was still smart to get the baby out of the country.
The Queen could have forbid them from taking Archie out of the country. She could have told them that they could leave, but the baby has to stay. The Queen has sovereign custody of her grandchildren. It wouldn't be their decision as to whether Archie could go with them to Canada. The Queen could use the baby as leverage to keep them from leaving.

That does not extend to her GREAT grandchildren.

Horrily to imply that she would do such a thing.

You've made that shit up about sovereign custody.

Plus, no one can really take custody of a grown ass man. That's her grandchild.

Nope. None of the minor grandchildren or great grandchildren are legally the custody of their parents. They are in the legal custody of the Queen. When the Queen dies, legal custody of Kate's children and Meghan's children passes to Charles. They used that rule to prevent Diana from leaving the country with Will and Harry.

If that is true and then he walked her down the aisle with such evident pleasure, he is fake as hell.

Where’s her baby?

Not with her.

Did she lose him? Abandon him? Or just extend his visit with whoever he's with now?

BTW, custody of a "grown ass man" is possible. The Queen has the authority to tell the people in the line of succession where to live and who to marry and whether they can work and whether they can travel. The Crown doesn't even allow Charles and William to ride in the same car, because of the possibility of car accidents.

They didn't/don't have to flee the country. England isn't a large country but it's not that small either. They don't have to move to Canada. Unless Meghan is planning on divorcing and taking Archie with her.

To get away from the worst of the UK press, they definitely have to flee the country. The UK press killed Princess Diana. They literally chased her until she died. US press is not nearly as rough as UK press.

Diana died in Paris which was not in the U.K. the last time I checked, so clearly the paparazzi are familiar with the concept of travel.

Canada is a lot father than Paris for a British media person.

These days they don’t have to ride ships and horse-drawn wagons to get there.

Also she's still got the court case looming over them all! Now that's a Queen.

Now that’s an attention whore.

No, he was just enforcing boundaries. It's not very American of him. But then he's not American.

It is a business. The wedding was a show. They all had a role to play, he was just playing his.

Uh, isn't that what Harry just showed? She can ask or command but she's not all powerful. They only obey because they want to. When they don't, they don't.

It's a long flight from London to Vancouver. It's a 90 minute flight from London to Paris.

She has no class. She was planning to show them outside the family for sure.

Where’s her baby?

Not out in the snow and at home with his nanny? Where's yours?

At home with me, not left with a nanny while I’m off gallivanting a plane ride away.
