Tuckahoe Boots Machine

The only difference I see between the York situation and the Hydra situation is the location of the facilities. Hydra is practicing over the winter at the same summer league facilities and York had to rent space elsewhere. Both Hydra and York rented facilities. Both were D1 coaches “running” their own clubs.

Does the location of the rental facility really matter that much? People carpool and drive to the facilities regardless.

If someone wants a vertically integrated (ahem..”aligned”) approach to private, summer rec, club, and facility then great. if Tuckahoe can pull this off without its members subsidizing supposedly separate business entities, cool. I’m sure in the history of business this isn’t the first incestuous arrangement of its kind and nor will it be the last.

I just think it is incredibly irresponsible for the Tuckahoe Board to give one individual so much control over their pool club. He is now their head swim coach, pool manager, swim school director, and year round PVS Swim Club head.

It is a lot of power to give someone with a questionable reputation within the community.

What happened to their pool manager? I thought T ran coaching and lessons.

He has his hands in EVERYTHING at Toreyhoe

Like tennis and the grill and basic pool maintenance and operations. And mini golf of course.

He is responsible for lessons and coaching. Kudos that his hardwork gives the impression he does so much, but Tuckahoe is much much bigger than one person.

I’m not sure I really understand the difference with Tuckahoe’s summer team and the new club team. The only difference is the club team practices at the same facility as the summer team?

It’s a nothing burger…

Do they run a club? Don’t think so.

The whole Hydra/Tuckahoe situation has already played out in NVSL once before.

Bob York founded York Swim Club in 1981. He coached Overlee from 1980-1985. So yes, an NVSL Div 1 coach did run a winter club team before - facts.

Bob’s situation 40 years ago is in no way relevant to the current Hydra situation. You’re comparing apples and hand grenades.

Which of the situations is the hand grenade?

Did York swim club use the Overlee facilities in the winter? Did Bob use shady dealings in order to gain pool time at Yorktown and Providence?

Speaking of which, when is Overlee going to install heaters and stay open longer? This seems like a no brainer for the members and could potentially serve as another additional space for club swimming.

Power? He is an employee (of the Board) in 3 of the 4 roles.

Tuckahoe’s letter stating that if T’s new club fails their “worst-case scenario” is that more swim lanes will be avail to members and they’ll have to find a new club willing to rent space 😱 Yikes… that isn’t much of a plan since they just burned their relationship with Machine. I wouldn’t have wanted to sign my name to this new risky endeavor. Not to mention it’s clear from the wording of the letter that T is NOT contributing as much money as what Machine was willing to pay for 1 more year. It’s alarming that they’re justifying the “potential” of this financial decision, that won’t come to fruition for many years, requiring a “multi-year contract” 😱

If I were a member there, I would have A LOT of questions about the reckless of the Tuckahoe Board’s decision. On top of their known maintenance that they’ve droned on about for years.

Yikes.

I'm a total outsider. Not in DMV. Looks like a conflict of interest. Should have let the other clubs have an opportunity to match the terms offered by the startup club.

Of course the insider would know how to structure the terms.

They offered the lanes to Torey and then after the fact accepted bids to try and save face.

I don’t really see an issue with turning to T or giving him the wink nod as to how much to bid. The pool is taking on some risk, but that is their prerogative. Not super concerned for the future of machine. We will see if it works out for tuckahoe, but shouldn’t impact non tuckahoe people much.

Is Machine planning to move to a pool like Kent Gardens and just bubble it?
